Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone passionate about AI safety and governance. CARMA is seeking a Research Assistant to support our projects in Comprehensive Risk Assessment, Offense-Defense Balances, and Positive-Sum Geostrategic Dynamics. You will supplement the knowledge, skills, and total bandwidth of our team.
About the Organization
The Center for AI Risk Management & Alignment (CARMA) envisages humanity being able to pull itself together enough to steer the reins of its perilous journey to transformative AI successfully. CARMA's mission is to help accomplish that, to lower the risks to humanity and the biosphere from transformative AI. Via better grounding AI risk management, via policy research squarely addressing AGI, via showing a path to better tradeoffs in technical safety, and by fostering global perspectives on durable safety, CARMA aims to provide critical support to society for managing the outsized risks from advanced AI.
CARMA is a fiscally-sponsored project of Social & Environmental Entrepreneurs, Inc., a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation. We collaborate closely with a variety of NGOs in the space and are well connected to achieve real impact with the gaps we fill.
Responsibilities
* Conducting literature reviews and summarizing findings
* Fact-checking and validating data
* Assisting in the preparation of research reports and articles
* Regular progress reporting
Requirements
* A college degree plus 1 year of experience
* Familiarity with one or more of the following spaces: AI safety, AGI safety, Responsible AI, Trustworthy AI
* Skilled in technical and expository writing
* Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills
* Ability to work independently with flexible hours
* A desire to contribute to AI safety and governance
Pluses
* Degree from a technical field
* Understanding of AI safety (e.g. introductory fellowship level equivalent)
* Background in technical AI safety, systems engineering, computer science, biosecurity, or national security
* Relevant publications
* Ambition and initiative in solving complex problems
