Product Manager - Power Systems Solutions
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Product Manager, Power Systems Solutions is responsible for managing SMA's inverter portfolio across residential, commercial, and industrial (C&I) segments. This includes string inverters, hybrid inverters, rapid shutdown, and BOS solutions. This role ensures compliance with grid standards, interoperability with storage and BOS components, and successful vendor coordination for inverter-related accessories. The ideal candidate brings strong technical acumen, a comfort with cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to engage regularly with SMA's global headquarters in Germany.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the lifecycle of SMA's inverter portfolio, including string inverters, hybrid inverters, rapid shutdown, and BOS solutions for the residential and C&I segments.
Ensure system interoperability with storage solutions, grid requirements, and 3rd-party BOS equipment.
Lead certifications, compliance testing, and adherence to regional standards (IEEE, UL, NEC).
Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and threats.
Develop product requirements, specifications, and business cases for new hardware platforms.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for inverter-related components.
Drive and coordinate product launches in alignment with sales and business development.
Represent SMA in standards committees and regulatory forums.
Support trade shows, internal training, and customer engagements.
Travel to Rocklin-based offices, tradeshows, and customer meetings as needed.
Travel to SMA Headquarters in Kassel, Germany for alignment within the Business Unit.
Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or management.
REQUIRED RELEVANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or energy engineering with a focus on product management or product marketing required; Master's degree in electrical industrial engineering or business administration with a similar focus is a strong plus.
Minimum 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience.
Agile certification desired.
Proven leadership and communication skills, preferably in international settings and at the executive level.
PV background and experience strongly desired.
Deep understanding of solar PV inverter market dynamics.
Adept at developing product roadmaps that align with short, mid-term, and long-term market requirements.
Strong technical expertise in PV inverter technology and BOS integration.
Knowledge of compliance standards (IEEE 1547, UL 1741, UL 3741, UL 2941, IEEE 2800).
Experience managing product lifecycles in global markets.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across international teams.
Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is required. Proficiency in German or Spanish is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
WE OFFER
The salary range for this position is $129,000 - $145,000 per year, dependent upon experience.
