We’re one of the most popular commerce platforms on the web, powering millions of stores, including our own at woo.com. In fact, one in five online stores are powered by Woo, including the Burning Man Marketplace, Bjork’s official store, and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team’s official store.

Built on WordPress, Woo empowers anyone, anywhere, to sell anything. We partner with global technology brands such as Stripe, PayPal, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Klaviyo and others, integrating their services with Woo to provide all the tools businesses need to run and grow their online stores. As part of the Automattic family, Woo is fully distributed, with no physical offices. The flexibility and autonomy that come with working from home are in our DNA–we provide benefits and resources to support your growth while doing your best work from anywhere in the world. We have a huge footprint, but we’re a small company. That means everyone here has the opportunity to make a visible, profound, and lasting difference while helping the store owners who rely on Woo every day.

About the role:

As the Product Director for Payments at Woo, you will be responsible for managing, growing, and enhancing payments products within our ecosystem. We are seeking an experienced Product Director with a strong background in product management, prior experience and/or training in engineering, and a particular focus on payments. A WordPress/Woo and/or open source background is considered a significant advantage to appreciate and navigate the unique complexities of this construct. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the long-term vision, driving product strategy, and ensuring that our offerings are the top choice for Woo users. Your impact will be measured by metrics related to acquisition, retention, monetization, and overall value proposition.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

Product Strategy and Vision:

  • Collaborate with payments leadership, engineering, and design to define and execute the product strategy and vision for payments, currently with an emphasis on the Stripe plugin.

  • Set ambitious goals aimed at establishing Woo-owned payments products as a top choice for WooCommerce users.

Team Leadership:

  • Define and deliver a focused product roadmap.

  • Partner and collaborate with a dedicated engineering team to execute your roadmap.

  • Facilitate debate, influence prioritization, and inspire contribution from cross-functional teams.

  • Where possible, drive synergies of the platform and build across payments products.

Customer-Centric Approach:

  • Engage with merchants and agencies to understand their most critical needs through customer interviews, behavioral data analysis, and intuition. Understand their motivations for choosing different payment providers.

  • Identify and execute the opportunities which drive the most strategic value, and actively maintain product and discovery backlogs.

  • Validate product direction through testing and MVPs.

Product Performance and Growth:

  • Analyze user behavior data and market trends to create actionable insights that maximize user satisfaction and drive growth.

  • Create and track product performance metrics and report progress in partnership with the data and engineering teams.

  • Address opportunities related to checkout conversion to help merchants maximize their sales.

  • Understand why merchants churn off Stripe, and work closely with other product leaders to have a holistic understanding of this area, and collectively find opportunities to address.

  • Familiarity with partnership commercial constructs is a plus!

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with Stripe to unlock new capabilities that increase the value add for merchants, while simultaneously creating opportunities to increase revenue streams for the business.

  • Collaborate with other product leads, design, engineering, payment operations, marketing, and customer success to ensure alignment and efficient execution of quarterly plans.

  • Advocate for projects, secure necessary resources, and escalate to leadership when goals are at risk.

Requirements:

  • A proven product leader with a focus on payments and WooCommerce or WordPress.

  • Someone with a track record in product management, with a preferred background in engineering.

  • Experienced managing products with revenue or PnL responsibility is preferred.

  • An exceptional leader with strong team management skills.

  • An excellent communicator, collaborator, and problem solver.

  • Deeply driven by customers and are driven to understand their needs.

  • At the intersection of data-informed and data-sparse decision-making in order to measure the impact of product initiatives.

Salary range: $175,000-$260,000 USD - Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
