About the team
Stripe’s Product Legal team is responsible for managing the legal and regulatory elements of the design, build and execution of our many products and services. We work on some of the most difficult technical, commercial, and regulatory problems around, and we’re looking for a product lawyer to join the team. In this role you will be a key advisor and voice for our Stripe Connect Product - Stripe’s largest payments product which enables marketplaces and platforms to enable payment capabilities for their merchants across the globe. In this role, you will work on a diverse set of issues across payments and money movement, product development, and innovative technology.
What you’ll do
The ideal candidate is passionate about helping businesses grow and thrive in the payments space. We’re looking for someone who is a team player and willing to jump in on tasks of any size. Broad experience in financial technology, payments and money transmission, and experience with developer platforms and internet tech is a huge plus.
Responsibilities
Counsel the global product team on a range of issues including payments regulations (including money transmission), product development, financial services regulatory issues, and marketing and data/privacy as it relates to the Stripe Connect product
Closely collaborate with teams across Stripe (including, engineering, risk and financial partnerships, data and privacy teams) to deliver pragmatic and actionable legal advice to your clients on a range of issues related to the product development lifecycle - from initial scoping to launch
Draft, review, and update internal and external-facing foundational documents for the Stripe Connect product and service offerings
Stay up-to-date (with the support of Stripe’s many legal subject matter experts) on laws and regulations dealing with payments and financial services; analyze laws, regulatory updates, industry trends to proactively advise clients of potential product impacts
Participate as a proactive business partner to your product team and build a trusted advisor relationship offering key legal and strategic business input in evolving Stripe and the Stripe Connect product roadmap and strategy
Over time, develop deep subject matter expertise of the Stripe Connect product and serve as a legal team member point of contact for escalations and questions related to Stripe Connect (Stripe Connect is an integral and foundational product for Stripe’s products and services)
Who you are

Minimum requirements
5+ years of demonstrated experience either as a qualified lawyer in a top law firm, in-house legal team and/or government agency working with payments or other financial services technology companies on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
Proficiency in, and passion for, working with technology and ability to understand complex operational and business models as well as multiple product use cases quickly
A self-starter and self-learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple workstreams and priorities simultaneously and efficiently
Someone with an ownership mentality that deals well with ambiguity, prides themselves on having excellent judgment and making decisions with limited information
Strong communication and relational skills and can work well cross-functionally with a sense of urgency, while remaining highly collaborative and fun
Excellent project management and organizational skills to stay on top of shifting priorities and thrives working under tight deadlines
