Who are we?

Born out of the financial expertise and trusted advice of The Motley Fool, Motley Fool Money brings the same unbiased analysis to the world of daily personal finance decisions. Our objective is to help readers cut through the noise so they can take actionable steps toward improving their finances.

Whether you’re looking to find the best credit card, pick the right stock broker, or evaluate the right bank accounts, we are your guide to conquering your money goals. Our team is passionate about delivering trustworthy, comprehensive, and accessible content to empower millions of readers each month.

The Motley Fool is firmly committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity. We are a motley group of aspiring overachievers that have built a culture of trust founded on Foolishness, fun, and a commitment to making the world smarter, happier and richer.  However you identify or whatever winding road has led you to us, please don't hesitate to apply if the description below leaves you thinking, 'Hey! I could do that!'

What does this team do? We launched Motley Fool Money to provide top-notch personal finance advice and review critical financial products like credit cards, mortgages, brokers, banking accounts, insurance, personal loans, and more. There’s some good (and a lot of bad) advice out there, and we’re cutting through the noise that often leaves people feeling helpless and insecure about these key financial decisions. From the tools we build, to our thorough and impartial reviews, to our overall design, we’ll highlight what matters -- and save our readers time and money.

In less than 5 years Motley Fool Money has grown rapidly and is already one of the biggest websites in its space, reaching millions of people monthly. But still, we feel that we’re just getting started and are investing in growing the team to further our (and our readers’) goals. It’s not an exaggeration to say that in this role you’d be directly helping millions of people toward a more successful financial future.

What would you do in this role? We are looking for a full-time Personal Finance Staff Writer to join our team at Fool.com/Money. This role is perfect for a self-starter with a strong interest in personal finance, excellent writing skills, and a knack for using data to drive meaningful business outcomes. The ideal candidate will craft insightful and engaging content while leveraging performance metrics to continually refine their work and contribute to the site's growth.

But what does this role actually do?

  • Write clear, engaging, and actionable articles on a variety of personal finance topics, including credit cards, banking, loans, budgeting, and financial planning.

  • Write short-form editorial content, as well as long-form evergreen topic guides, reviews, and best-of lists.

  • Conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy, credibility, and value for readers.

  • Analyze content performance metrics (e.g., traffic, engagement, conversions) to inform future writing and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Collaborate with editorial and SEO teams to optimize articles for search visibility and audience engagement.

  • Use data-driven insights to align content strategy with business objectives, focusing on driving revenue and user growth.

  • Stay updated on trends and news in the personal finance industry to produce timely, relevant content.

  • Generate innovative content ideas based on market trends, audience needs, and data analysis.

  • Leverage AI tools to assist in writing structure, velocity, and idea generation, ensuring efficiency and creative breakthroughs.

What do you need to apply?:

  • Proven experience and expertise in writing about personal finance or related fields, with a strong portfolio of published work.

  • Strong data acumen, including experience analyzing metrics and applying insights to improve performance.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an ability to explain complex topics in an accessible, engaging way.

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and content optimization strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively.

  • A proactive mindset with a focus on driving measurable business outcomes.

  • Financial credentials such as CFP, CFA, etc preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, finance, economics, or a related field preferred.

Please note, no sponsorship is available for this position. You must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, one of these states for employment: California, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.

Below you’ll see a few of our perks, but check out our Careers Site for the complete list:

  • Flexible, remote work environment (*see our open states above)

  • No “vacation policy” (not to be confused with a “No vacation” policy)

  • Generous fully-paid parental leave

  • $1,000 annually to invest in stocks of your choice

  • Super low premiums for medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Comprehensive compensation package, including company equity
