Talent is our highest investment and our people drive our long-term growth and success.  The People team at Check is dedicated to fostering an engaged, high-performing workforce. We aim to create a diverse and equitable workplace where every Checketeer is celebrated, supported, and valued for their contributions.

The People Operations Specialist leads the charge in cultivating a thriving workplace culture at Check, reporting to and collaborating closely with the Head of People to guide team members through every stage of the employee lifecycle. Responsibilities include enhancing the employee experience through engagement initiatives, managing recognition and compensation programs, and ensuring discoverability and access to resources. Additionally, you'll drive Check's growth by optimizing internal systems and policies and advocating for evolving workforce needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure the integrity and efficacy of our existing HR tools, including our HRIS, native payroll platform, benefits, and LOA administration tools, and our L&D, performance, and engagement platforms.

  • Continually optimize People processes and programs to support Check’s evolving needs, leveraging both existing tools and new technologies, and utilizing data to inform People team investments.

  • Champion best-in-class employee onboarding and offboarding experiences, and support our team members through other employee lifecycle milestones such as role transitions and leaves of absence.

  • Lead weekly payroll administration and partner with internal operations and R&D teams to ensure excellent ongoing service delivery for our team; contribute to product excellence by advocating for features and functionalities that benefit our partners.

  • In partnership with the Head of People, oversee Check’s benefit programs, funding strategy, and annual open enrollment process; partner with our external brokers to facilitate ongoing employee benefits enrollment and administration.

  • Elevate team engagement and experience through coordination of virtual and in-person company events (like our annual retreat in Mexico!); organize team recognition opportunities and group celebrations of company milestones, and ensure that fun and whimsy are part of our everyday way of working.

  • Ensure team members have access to the information, support, and resources needed to grow and succeed in their roles and careers; build policies and documentation to enable self-directed learning and development, and equip managers to lead effective teams.

  • Support the Head of People, Security, Finance, and Legal teams on internal compliance programs and initiatives.

  • Ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are woven into the fabric of Check’s people policies, programs, and processes.

Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have some or all of the following:

  • 3+ years of relevant People/HR experience in a startup environment

  • Proven success in building and optimizing systems and processes through multiple company growth stages

  • Fluency in HR technology trends and best practices; thorough understanding of HR regulations and employment law, especially within NY and CA

  • Polished communication, content design, and presentation skills - you know how to cut through the noise and get your point across

  • A results-oriented growth mindset - you are unafraid of taking risks to make a big impact

  • Travel to our San Francisco office 1-2 times per year
