Job Summary

We are seeking a Database Administrator, specifically to support our MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.

The Database Administrator is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Database systems. This role is also responsible for ensuring availability and predictable performance of our QA/Dev and production databases. The candidate should have a good understanding of networks and protocols to understand the impact of events, alarms and alerts on the various components as well as an understanding of concepts of other programming languages in regards to database usage. The candidate should also be able to provide guidance and advice to less experienced team members and to customers, service desk personnel and other stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Working with end users to translate business requirements into database technical specifications.

  • Partnering with IT and engineering to ensure database designs meet user requirements.

  • Monitoring database operations, analyzing and responding to performance and other maintenance issues.

  • Liaising with developers and other technical personnel to ensure resolution of system issues, including memory, capacity, storage and accessibility.

  • Planning and implementing backup and recovery for all relevant applications.

  • Diagnosing, developing and recommending solutions to complex systems, software, security and other issues.

  • Developing, updating and maintaining system manuals, documentation, policies, and procedures for installing, configuring, maintaining and using database systems and technologies.

Requirements 

  • Experienced MySQL and PostgreSQL Administration.

  • Experience with AWS (Cloud Architecture) and AWS Database Offerings (including migration experience). 

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to work in a team environment and multi-task to meet critical deliverable dates.

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology tools and platforms.

Additional Skills (would like to have but not required)

  • Experience Administering Oracle Databases

  • Knowledge of event correlation platforms (e.g. Moogsoft, BigPanda, etc.)

  • Knowledge of OpGenie or other On-call and alert management services.

Education

  • BS or MS in Computer Sciense or EE or equivalent work experience
