At national level, states are increasingly setting up AI Safety institutes and enforcement offices. The UN Secretary General António Guterres has suggested AI governance will require a new international entity. The Multilateral Governance lead will work will these and other agencies to build consensus behind our chosen approach to international AI governance.

As Multilateral Governance lead, you will:

  • Run workshops with relevant thinktanks, diplomats and academics.

  • Establish a close network with key officials in the office of the UN Tech Envoy, the EU AI Office, the Japanese, UK and US Safety Institutes, and other relevant bodies.

  • Identify opportunities for FLI to fund efforts contributing to strong international AI governance via grants and contracts.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Experience working in advocacy or policy roles.

  • Strong self-direction, proactivity and work ethic. Comfortable working independently.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to bring together information from a range of sources and to present it to a non-expert audience in a compelling way.

  • Ability to plan for, lead and facilitate meetings with very senior stakeholders, including government decision-makers, academics and other partners.

  • Willingness to travel internationally, and to take occasional meetings at odd hours to accommodate FLI’s various time zones. These hours may be compensated throughout the week.

Preferred qualifications and qualities:

  • A graduate degree in emerging technologies, international relations or similar.

  • Location in Asia to build FLI's global reach.

$110,000 - $190,000 a year

Compensation will vary depending on experience and geography.

Additional benefits include 24+ days of leave per year, paid parental leave, and a work from home allowance for the purchase of office supplies or equipment.

Application Process: Apply by uploading your resume and optional cover letter, alongside a short answer to the following question: 'Out of all the world's existing international agencies, which one best serves as a blueprint for a future AI entity and why?' [max 200 words]

Please apply via our website. Email applications are not accepted.

Application deadline: September 8, 2024

FLI aims to be an inclusive organization. We proactively seek job applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds.
