Kepler is on an audacious mission: to bring the internet to space. Founded in 2015, our ambition is to provide internet connectivity in space, whether in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. As a Missions Architect in the Strategic Initiatives department at Kepler, you play a pivotal role in driving the company's mission of pioneering space connectivity through innovative technological solutions. You will be at the forefront of shaping Kepler's vision to revolutionize space connectivity with groundbreaking advancements. This position demands a unique blend of technical acumen and holistic strategic insight, empowering you to design and refine solutions that combine innovations to meet market and environmental constraints while aligning with overarching business goals. Collaborating intimately with cross-disciplinary teams, you'll spearhead the technical side of initiatives to propel our technological roadmap forward, broaden our spectrum of products, venture into untapped markets, and forge pivotal strategic alliances.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and architect missions and potential product/services that expand on Kepler’s existing systems and support the evolving solution offerings

  • Expand-on and Develop Exploration and Strategic Initiative portfolio by generating and leadingfeasibility studies and prototypes for new mission initiatives identified

  • Lead the development of novel applications for innovative space communication technologies

  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance Kepler’s product offerings

  • Drive the implementation of new initiatives from concept through to execution-handover

  • Work closely with Solutions Architects, Project Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure cohesive strategy and execution.

  • Stay current with industry advancements and emerging technologies to maintain Kepler’s competitive edge.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex mission architecture projects

  • Engage with engineering, product, and marketing teams to translate mission concepts into viable products and service

  • Provide technical presence and insight at potential client engagement efforts to seed early mission and collaboration concepts.

  • Perform mission analysis, and develop/test hypotheses mission/solution fit.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred

  • Proven experience in mission architecture, systems engineering, or in a role exploring an ambiguous solution space

  • Strong understanding of satellite communication and networking technologies, space systems,

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative solutions in a complex technical environment. and related engineering principles.

  • Deep understanding of system architecture, engineering fundamentals.

  • Experience with external technical interfacing (customer engagements), concept development, and proposal writing.

  • Proven experience as a self-starter, that can conceive and pitch complex projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to create solutions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively articulating technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver outcomes within tight deadlines.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in market analysis, business development, or related areas is a plus

  • Experience in optical, quantum, synthetic-aperture telescopes (niche areas)

  • Experience in conducting cost-benefit analyses and financial modeling for technology investments.

  • Experience with structuring business or business units, particularly as a result of M&A activity, JVs, or other partnerships.
