Title: Medical Science Liaison - Midwest

Location: Remote

About Us:

Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA), is a late-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Vera’s mission is to advance treatments that target the source of immunologic diseases in order to change the standard of care for patients. Vera’s lead product candidate is atacicept, a fully humanized fusion protein self-administered at home as a subcutaneous injection once weekly that blocks both B-cell Activating Factor (BAFF) and A Proliferation Inducing Ligand (APRIL), which stimulate B cells and plasma cells to produce galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) and associated autoantibodies, which together form immune complexes that are fundamental in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Vera is also considering evaluating the role of atacicept in other immunologic disorders. Additionally, Vera is developing MAU868, a monoclonal antibody designed to neutralize infection with BK Virus, a polyomavirus that can have devastating consequences in certain settings such as kidney transplant. For more information, please visit: www.veratx.com.

Our values are the cornerstone of our culture. Our values inspire us every day and guide everything we do—from how we hire great people, to advancing our mission together, to achieving our ultimate goal to improve medical treatment for patients suffering from immunological diseases.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Medical Affairs, Field Medical Team Leader, we seek an experienced, science-focused, MSL to join our rapidly growing medical affairs team with the primary mission of increasing awareness with regards to the unmet need and pathogenesis of IgAN, and the role of targeting BAFF and APRIL as a potentially transformative, disease-modifying therapy. Additionally, Vera will be increasing medical affairs activities related to membranous nephropathy and lupus nephritis, two potential future indications for atacicept. With active partnership with the entire medical affairs team, the MSL will focus on developing relationships with the external scientific and medical community. This role will also work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in clinical development, commercial, market access and other key functional areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with KOLs through meetings (both face-to-face and virtual) as well as at congresses and advisory boards.

  • Expected to deliver proactive disease state education, and reactive discussions regarding product and clinical trial data.

  • Provide appropriate scientific, clinical, and educational support to internal and external customers.

  • Build a territory plan and establish key relationships with external communities, including professional societies.

  • Support cross-functional medical pre-launch processes to ensure launch readiness and medical excellence.

  • Take an active role in the planning and execution of educational activities at key scientific congresses and help develop the medical affairs congress strategy at both the national and regional levels, in collaboration with the medical affairs team.

  • Lead and/or participate on special projects as necessary.

  • Travel required (up to 50%).

Qualifications:

  • MD, PharmD, or PhD, in Life Sciences.

  • Minimum 3 years Medical Affairs experience required.

  • Experience in facilitating external relationships, as well as a track record of success interacting with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal; comfortable and experienced in developing and giving presentations.

  • Strong background in renal or immunologic disease preferred.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to think creatively and innovatively.

  • Must possess excellent planning and organizational skills.

  • Team-player comfortable in fast-moving, dynamic environments.

  • Must be based in the assigned territory.
