This position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC), a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.

GSCC is currently looking for an experienced and talented “Manager, Creative Strategy - International Digital Hub” to help make a powerful impact in the face of the global climate change threat. You will be responsible for leading the Creative & Product Team - a team of six within GSCC’s International Digital Hub team of digital campaigners and experts - and for driving the creation of inspiring and compelling creative concepts to ignite change.

Our ideal candidate should be able to pull from innovative creative thinking, technical best practices and interactions with audience insight experts to drive effective creative concepts and products that get our audiences’ thinking from point A to point B rather than as a means to an end; to create a vision for the Creative & Product team and manage their development in that direction; and to look beyond individual projects at the bigger picture of what approaches, collaborations or resources we and the broader climate space need in order to produce creative that really shifts our audiences at scale.

The right candidate for this role should be ready to address their work to audiences that span a vast range of regions and cultures around the planet – from broad public audiences to targeted niche communities, and on a range of issues from emotional storytelling to technical information to breaking news. The ability to respond quickly and thoughtfully to unpredicted events along the fast-moving frontlines of the fight against climate change, to proactively experiment to overcome challenges, and to work well with a wide group of stakeholders that bring a wide variety of perspectives and strategic mandates to our work, is also crucial.

How you'll contribute

This position reports directly to the Director of the International Digital Hub and will:

  • Provide thought leadership on gaps in how the team, network and climate movement use creative concepts and products to shift audiences, and propose and implement new approaches.
  • Promote a culture by which creative is an active element of strategy and campaign development, rather than a passive production service.
  • Set the strategic vision, growth plans and resourcing needs for the Creative & Product team, contributing to funder proposals.
  • Manage the Creative & Product team – including staff specialised in design and video production – and team processes to ensure the production of timely, original and compelling creative that leverages industry best practice and data insights while remaining flexible to address the unpredictable nature of the international strat comms landscape.
  • Lead on creative strategy for individual campaigns (from high spend multichannel always-on campaigns to smaller one-off campaigns), working closely with campaigners, audience insights experts and digital campaign analytics experts to produce creative concepts and define which creative to deploy at different stages. Organise the production of campaign creative, either in-house or through outsourcing.
  • Be a source of thought leadership for the network and broader climate movement on which creative approaches are most effective at shifting specific audiences around the world, staying on top of creative trends and working with campaigners and analysts to understand campaign data and design experiments.
  • Report on the effectiveness of the team’s creative from a strategic comms perspective, and adjust approaches accordingly.
  • Expand our capacity by improving our agency and freelancer roster and ways of working.
  • Ensure proper platforms, technologies, softwares, etc. are deployed to ensure effective creative production.
  • Contribute to capacity building in priority partner organisations on creative approach.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Excellent knowledge of how creative can be used in the real world to shift audiences as part of strategic communications campaigns.
  • Proven experience delivering creative strategies and creative concepts - including for large-scale multichannel campaigns - in tandem with climate communications experts, digital strategists, data analysts and audience insights experts. Experience in copywriting is a plus.
  • The ability to think beyond individual campaigns and current demand, and identify the direction where broader strategies, processes and structures need to go.
  • Experience line managing - and developing - creative talent.
  • Proficiency in the project management related to leading a content production team and creative projects, including managing stakeholders, scheduling, budgeting, and time management across multiple projects and multiple countries
  • Background and expertise in an area of creative, such as video, design, copy, etc., is advantageous
  • Ability to understand and question digital campaign metrics to ascertain whether creative is working as desired or not.
  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of Meliore;
  • Fluency in English, with knowledge of any other languages a distinct advantage;
  • Ability to work flexibly, both independently and in a team;
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across phone/video conferencing, time zones, Slack, email, Trello, etc.;
  •  A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.

Why join us?

  • Be part of a remote-first, international network of professionals working on climate, energy and nature. We offer coworking access in some locations.
    Work with a bunch of dynamic, culturally diverse individuals who combine their passion to make a difference with a rigorous and results-oriented approach to work.
  • Enjoy regular opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues around the world.
  • A full-time position with a consultant or employment contract (subject to location) for 12 months, with a possible renewal after one year.

Location: flexibly remote.

Some international travel will be required. We may be able to provide co-working spaces in some locations. Only candidates with the right to work in their location will be considered.
