About the role

As a Lead Product Designer on Catalog and International / Multi-Geo, you will cultivate an understanding of customer problems and craft experiences that will enable our merchants and their businesses to flourish and grow. You’ll develop designs for a next generation catalog, making the experience of managing catalog data and inventory manageable for a wide range of use cases, from merchants who have complex catalogs to those who sell across borders to those who have multiple warehouses and stores in different countries. You’ll work cross functionally to ensure that the experience for merchants with international use cases works as well as it does for a single store merchant while ensuring that you are enabling an excellent shopper facing experience.

Product designers at BigCommerce are part of the entire product development process, from concept to launch. They work closely with product managers, UX research and engineers to build end-to-end solutions by understanding the customer problem, iterating on solutions, and shipping finished products. As a Senior Product Designer at BigCommerce, you will have the ability to lead and shape the products you work on while being able to learn from and collaborate with a team of seasoned professionals.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with product managers and engineers to identify product direction, feature sets and behaviors for your product area.

  • Develop a keen understanding of the merchant interaction with adding and managing product data to the catalog, opportunities and challenges with selling to different geographies, gaps in the shopper experience, competitor solutions, and trends in e-commerce.

  • Incorporate user-based research practices throughout the design / development process to ensure our product meets market, user, and design quality-markers.

  • Advocate for the most important usability issues, provide designs, and guide the team to develop the most intuitive approach.

  • Create flows, sketches, prototypes, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate concepts, solicit feedback, and validate solutions; facilitate an aligned vision among your team and stakeholders.

  • Determine appropriate usage and evolution of patterns, ensuring our solutions are consistent, familiar, and understood across the platform.

  • Work with design leadership to inform and improve processes, tooling, and culture.

  • As a design leader you will solve business objectives, shape design team culture, help mature the design practice and drive customer value.

  • Provide consultation to Product and Engineering managers on best practices for partnering with design.

  • Provide constructive feedback, guidance and mentorship to fellow designers

  • Lead by example - do great work and share what you’ve done with others at BigCommerce

You are:

  • Collaborative. You understand that solving problems for our users is a team sport.

  • A systems thinker. You understand how to define guidelines with structure and flexibility to make the product desirable and usable. Taking the complex and making it simple is a challenge that brings you joy.

  • Self-driven. You have superior organizational skills, integrity and great follow through on tasks. You don't get overwhelmed easily and know when to push back or drive ahead.

  • Naturally curious. You're innovative, extremely creative and constantly looking for ways to tweak and optimize processes.

  • Pragmatic. You appreciate the latest design trends but can easily filter out what is and isn’t useful to your audience. You can look at your design solution and determine what is integral to the experience and what are ‘bells and whistles’.

  • User-centered. You care deeply about your users and take extra steps to ensure your designs are addressing their problems, down to the last pixel.

  • A leader. You’re comfortable working in a fast paced environment, and understand the design / development process well enough to know when to employ it, push back or skip steps.

  • Fun! You're flexible, fearless, and excited to help build something awesome.

  • A utility player. You're willing to help out wherever needed.

Skills & Abilities:

  • 7+  years experience working as a product designer on a product team shipping successful products

  • Demonstrated execution of end-to-end design process from discovery to delivery, with a portfolio of work showcasing visual design, interaction design and strategic thinking

  • Experience working on developer facing products or enterprise platforms / applications

  • Ability to manage working on several concurrent projects with remote teams

  • Experience working with engineering teams in a Scrum or Agile framework

  • Proficiency creating thoughtful, scalable design systems

  • Advanced skills in design tools like Figma

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

  • Ecommerce experience is ideal, but not required

  • Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Information Design, Communication Design, or a related design or behavioral science discipline, or equivalent experience

What's in it for you

  • Design solutions that will be used by thousands of partners and will benefit hundreds of thousands of users

  • Collaborate with local and international teams

  • Learn from a talented team of seasoned professionals

  • Be a part of a fast-growing company

  • Flexible working hours

  • Competitive salary and benefits
