Lead Editor and Motion Designer - The Hustle YouTube Channel
POS-11966
Application Deadline: Please submit your application by 5 pm ET Tues, Feb 17th.
Overview The Hustle is hiring a full-time Lead Editor & Motion Designer to define and scale the visual language of our YouTube-first editorial videos (long-form and Shorts). You’ll own edits end-to-end, elevate and maintain our graphics and motion system, and turn scripts into high-retention, visually coherent stories that make complex business and tech topics easy to follow and fun to watch.
Responsibilities
Deliver post-production for long and short-form stories:
Edit YouTube-first, long-form videos from audio string-out to final cut on deadline, along with Shorts (both repurposed and original).
Design and animate clear data visualizations, diagrams, and explainer sequences for business and tech topics.
Build mixed-media comps that serve editorial beats and keep viewers engaged.
Handle color, audio cleanup, music selection, and basic mix.
Collaborate with writers/hosts and stakeholders; give and receive concise, actionable feedback.
Be a visual leader:
Provide edit-focused notes on pacing, clarity, music, motion and visual alignment.
Lead recurring edit reviews, mentorship, and post‑mortems that turn visual performance data and team feedback into evolving best practices for the channel.
Guide our team of editors and animators with specific, actionable feedback to continually improve creative output, workflows, and post‑production processes.
Do visual script passes: match words to visuals, flag gaps, and suggest structural or pacing fixes to improve retention.
Support visual planning calls, turning creative direction and performance insights into motion/graphics plans.
Lead recurring visual strategy meetings that analyze recent videos and translate performance insights into clear, actionable improvements for editors and animators.
Assist in managing external post‑production contractors, ensuring their work aligns with our visual style guide, deadlines, and performance goals.
Optimize visual packaging across the channel:
Maintain and elevate the channel graphics package (lower thirds, transitions, charts, maps, iconography) for a consistent and distinct visual style.
Manage templates, assets, and project files for speed and repeatability; document and uphold our visual style guide and post-production best practices.
Iterate on formats and visuals based on audience feedback and performance metrics (e.g., retention, click-through, AVD).
What You Bring
5+ years of editorial or documentary-style editing with motion design for digital video and a portfolio of YouTube-optimized work (8+ minute videos).
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Strong editorial instincts: story structure, pacing, clarity, and accuracy, with an eye toward YouTube audience behavior and retention.
Expertise in color grading, audio cleanup, and export/deliverables for YouTube.
Experience building and maintaining consistent design systems and iterating on them based on feedback and performance data.
Familiarity with modern creative pipelines, project workflows, and video archiving and data management best practices.
We Are Looking for People Who
Effectively multitask and methodically assess and resolve technical and creative issues in a timely, scalable manner.
Enhance live-action videos with intricate and engaging animations and identify when animated pieces can drive the narrative.
Follow and elevate brand guidelines with a keen eye for detail and consistency.
Communicate and collaborate effectively across writers, hosts, creatives, and brand teams.
Incorporate feedback well and provide clear, edit-focused notes to others.
Work effectively within a team structure while also being able to operate independently with minimal supervision.
Are highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed, building systems that help the whole team move faster.
Nice to Have
Experience developing or refreshing a channel-level graphics package.
Data visualization experience for business/tech stories.
Familiarity with Frame.io, Descript, Riverside, YouTube Studio, and Google Drive.
Efficient stock/archival sourcing within brand and legal guidelines.
