TITLE: Interim Vice President, Development (7-Month Fixed Term)

Our newly formed Development Team drives the philanthropic support that fuels this mission. The team builds meaningful relationships with individual donors, foundations, and partners who share our vision for a healthier internet. Through strategic fundraising initiatives, we secure the resources needed to advance Mozilla's mission of promoting openness, innovation, and opportunity online. We lead grassroots fundraising, institutional giving, and major gifts strategy to power advocacy, education, open-source innovation, and global convenings like MozFest.
The Interim Vice President, Development will provide experienced leadership during a 7-month maternity leave, ensuring continuity, stability, and momentum across our most critical fundraising priorities. The role also directly manages the Senior Director - Development, Director - Development Operations, Major Gifts Officer and Program Manager - Development Initiatives.
Job responsibilities
Here are some projects you'll likely work on in your first 6 months:
Maintain progress toward annual fundraising goals across major gifts, institutional giving, and grassroots revenue streams
Guide execution of donor strategies and pipeline development plans already underway
Partner cross-functionally to design and activate a strong philanthropic engagement strategy for MozFest 2026
Support prioritization and decision-making related to development operations systems and processes
Provide clear reporting and strategic updates to the Executive Director and leadership team
As the Interim Vice President, Development at Mozilla, you will…
Lead and support a multi-functional fundraising team, including senior leaders and individual contributors
Maintain team morale, productivity, and adherence to fundraising best practices
Hold regular 1:1 meetings and team touchpoints to ensure alignment and accountability
Serve as the Development representative on the Executive Team
Monitor progress against annual fundraising goals and provide monthly updates to leadership
Use existing dashboards and systems to track donor engagement, revenue, and pipeline health
Identify and flag strategic risks and opportunities to the Executive Director
Co-design and lead the 2026 MozFest philanthropic engagement strategy, including donor prospect development and cultivation planning
Advise and support team members on donor cultivation and solicitation strategies
Establish metrics, track progress, and document learnings to inform future fundraising cycles
This is a stewardship-focused leadership role — ideal for a seasoned fundraising executive who can step into an established strategy, provide stability, and sustain forward momentum.
Your Professional Profile:
10+ years of progressive fundraising leadership experience
Demonstrated success securing major gifts and institutional funding, including 7- and 8-figure gifts
Experience managing multiple revenue streams simultaneously
Strong experience leading and motivating multi-functional fundraising teams
Ability to step into an existing strategy and maintain performance without disruption
Excellent strategic judgment and decision-making skills
Strong collaboration and executive-level communication skills
Alignment with Mozilla Foundation’s mission and values

Experience in technology, digital rights, open-source, or mission-driven organizations
Familiarity with Salesforce or comparable CRM systems
Previous interim leadership or maternity leave coverage experience
Experience fundraising for global convenings or large-scale events
Salary and Benefits Information:
Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair and equitable compensation for our staff. We aim to pay a competitive and market-based salary based on the responsibilities and requirements of the role. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.
The starting salary ranges for this role are listed below. These four countries are where we most commonly employ staff.
Germany: €183,300.80 - €205,984.27
UK: £161,384.40 - £181,355.72
Canada: $268,974 - $302,259.53
USA: $234,400 - $263,407
Some regions fall into a higher salary market and this is reflected in the example ranges below:
London: £189,864 – £213,359.67
New York: $293,000 – $329,258.75
Bay Area: $293,000 – $329,258.75
