Reports to: Chief of Staff
Location: US Remote - EST (must be based in Eastern Time Zone) or New York, NY (hybrid)
Please note that while the majority of the work is conducted remotely for team members based ‘non-local’ to NYC, all team members are expected to be available to attend key on-site events 2-4 times per year in the NY office. The onsite weeks are scheduled in advance and travel expenses are covered by the business. Local NY based team members are required to work in the office 10–20% of the time.
Hours/Status: Full-Time, exempt
Salary (USD): $150,000-$170,000 - offer to be commensurate with level of experience and consideration of location (local/non-local - US)
The role Spektrix is looking for a dynamic, tech-savvy Head of Legal to join our team in the US. This is a unique opportunity for a ~3–5 PQE lawyer to build a global legal function from the ground up.
Your role is to create a streamlined, technology-enhanced contract administration framework that is so efficient you can eventually automate or delegate the 'admin' to focus on high-stakes negotiation and strategic risk management. You won't just be reviewing contracts; you will be a key stakeholder of the commercial engine of a global SaaS business.
You’ll operate as both a strategic partner and a hands-on builder, working closely with leadership to shape how we take risk, support the business, and scale responsibly.
You will be supported by a high-caliber network of external advisors for specialized local knowledge, allowing you to focus on the big picture. You will report to the senior leadership team and have a direct seat at the table as we scale our operations in North America and beyond.
Core Responsibilities
Negotiation Lead: Act as the primary legal partner for our Sales and Client Relationship (CR) teams. You’ll explain clauses, find commercial compromises, and lead redline sessions for new business.
Pricing Strategy: Collaborate on pricing reviews, running the numbers and working with the CR team to land new terms with clients.
Tech-Driven Ops: Streamline data extraction from signed contracts and maintain HubSpot as our 'Single Source of Truth' for contract data.
Financial Escalation: Act as the final escalation point for debt recovery, issuing LBAs and managing small claims where necessary. Global Expansion: Support our entry into new markets (like Germany) by understanding local data standards and adapting our T&Cs.
Bulk Rollouts: Manage large-scale contract updates (e.g., Dotdigital flow-down terms, indemnity updates, and support hour changes) across our global client base.
Intercompany Governance: Work with the Finance team to ensure all intercompany transactions and data transfers (UK/US/CAN/AU) are covered by robust legal agreements.
Entity Clean-up: Leading the novation of historical contracts into our new local entities as needed.
Corporate Secretarial: Support global incorporation requirements and data compliance practices.
Supplier & People Support: Assist with occasional supplier negotiations (and/or disputes) and occasionally provide employment law guidance to the People team.
Insurance: Manage the legal aspect of insurance renewals to ensure our coverage matches our client commitments.
What you'll bring
Credentials: JD and in good standing with an active U.S. state bar membership.
Experience: ~3–5 years PQE
Confident Negotiator: You have a track record of drafting and negotiating complex commercial technology agreements. You have spent a significant portion of your career 'in the redlines' and know how to find a 'yes' that protects the business.
The 'Builder' Mindset: Hands-on attitude to tackle projects large and small, low-ego approach to working across the organization. Plus, you are obsessed with efficiency. You’d rather spend two hours automating a process than one doing it manually every month.
SaaS Savvy: Experience with Hubspot, Google Workspace, and AI-assisted legal tools is a major plus.
Strong Business Judgment: You know when to push, when to flex, and when to simplify
Global Curiosity: You’re excited to navigate the differences between UK GDPR, US State laws, and Canadian privacy requirements.
