Design at Pennylane

Design sits at the centre of this mission and its purpose is to deliver a seamless, accessible and enjoyable experience for our users.

Our team of 25+ product designers work across different tracks that are divided into cross-functional squads each consisting of Engineering, Product and Design. Autonomy, trust and transparency are the key values upon which our culture is built, this is directly reflected in how our designers operate on a day-to-day basis. At Pennylane, designers are expected to actively contribute all the way from defining the problem space, to research and testing.

The role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Group Product Designer to join Pennylane.

You'll be joining the Bookkeeping group, composed of 5 squads, managing the 5 designers working in these squads and working closely with Laura (Group Product Manager) and Alexandre (Senior Engineering Manager). You’ll be reporting to Adèle (Product Design Manager).

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in leading a small design team, including people management and design leadership.

If you are passionate about leading and growing talented designers, and thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment, we would love to hear from you!

Key responsibilities

Managing a team of 5 designers: creating a great working environment for your team, encouraging synergies, removing blockers as they arise, coaching and growing the talents in your team, including performance management and setting clear and engaging objectives.

Building and refining your knowledge of our users: engaging in user research to gain insights into user behaviours, needs, and pain points, and translate those findings into design direction and input for the team

Leading your group with your PM and Tech counterparts: co-creating the product vision, ensuring a consistent and smooth user experience across squads, solving staffing challenges, aligning with adjacent scopes and beyond, solving dependencies…

Oversee and challenge design work in your scope: participate in design critiques and provide constructive feedback to improve the quality and effectiveness of design solutions, within the Product Design team, squad and the business

Playing a key role in our Product Design team: fostering an inclusive, safe and collaborative environment, initiating and leading projects that improve our team’s capabilities and workflows, creating a culture of knowledge sharing, spreading good practices etc.

Your profile

Native level in French and fluency in English is required for effective communication and collaboration.

You have experience managing and growing designers of all seniority levels.

You demonstrate solid experience in product design, specifically in a B2B / SaaS context.

You thrive on uncovering and solving complex problems and are not afraid to dive in complex topics (in our case, accounting).

You excel at fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging design team culture.

You are able to communicate effectively and smoothly with all types of stakeholders. You demonstrate great collaboration skills with PM and Engineering counterparts.

You strive to understand both the users and the business, and are able to contribute meaningfully to the product strategy on your scope.
