About Us:

CALSTART is a mission-driven industry organization focused on transportation decarbonization and clean air for all.

For over 30 years, it’s been CALSTART’s mission to develop, assess, and implement large-scale, zero-emission transportation solutions to mitigate climate change and support economic growth. CALSTART works with businesses, organizations, governments, and communities to create real-life impact toward clean air and equitable access to clean transportation for all. CALSTART has an immediate 6-month paid internship opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Development Initiative. This position will support the Foundation and Philanthropic Grants team and report directly to the Lead Manager of Philanthropic Gifts and Grants Management. What You'll Do:

  • Support day-to-day obligations and tasks of grants management for existing foundation grants and foundation proposal activities for the organization, to help ensure that proposal and fundraising needs are being met across the organization

  • Coordinate outreach to stakeholders by aiding in scheduling, notetaking, and funder information/outreach summaries

  • Enter information into spreadsheets, often utilizing formulas

  • Assist with assembling and editing proposals

  • Maintain accurate and updated information in the CRM (relationship management software) as well as in other online systems and documents

  • Assist with fundraising tasks

  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring to the Table:

  • Completed at least three years of accredited college/university level coursework pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, urban planning, communications, policy, business administration, or other related fields.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfortable with detailed financial tasks; enjoy working with numbers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to multi-task in a fast-paced remote work environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within teams with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.

  • Knowledge or interest in the zero-emission transportation field, sustainability, or non-profit organizations.

  • Minimum commitment of 20-30 hours/week.

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing master's degree in policy, communication, sustainability, business, science, or related field

  • Experience or knowledge of non-profit fundraising and development

  • Experience with CRMs and/or relationship management tools
