About The Company:

Founded in 2018, Aloware is a dynamic and fast-growing contact center as a software (CCaaS) startup that has achieved a remarkable 100% year-over-year growth for the past three years. Our transformative calling and texting software caters to a diverse array of industries, primarily serving mid-market and small B2B and B2C businesses.

With the ongoing revolution in AI chatbots, VOIP, and hybrid work models, the realm of SaaS for customer communication has never been more electrifying.

As a company building for remote teams, we believe in global talent. Our 100+ team members are spread over 15+ countries, and we believe that diverse backgrounds and ideas push the edge of technology forward.

We’re looking for a LATAM-based engineering manager with experience that…

• Experienced Manager: you’re great with people and can recruit, train and manage a team of 10+ offshore software engineers efficiently, doing 1:1s, and establishing a personal growth trajectory for each.

• Amazing talent finder: you have 3+ years of experience recruiting, running engineering interviews, and hiring top talent offshore.

• Experienced Software Developer: you’re hands-on with code, have years of experience doing code reviews, can spearhead architecture and design reviews for software engineers, don’t fear ad-hoc database migrations, and can DO deployments to production middle of the day.

This role reports directly to our engineering leadership. We have repeatedly grown our engineering team from a team of one (seriously) to an organization of 15+ talented individuals, and it’s time to bring in experienced leaders.

Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership and Management

• Manage day-to-day aspects of each engineer and participate in the hiring process.

• Build and maintain a strong team dynamic, ensuring individuals work effectively together.

• Supervise teams through their leads, fostering effective communication and cohesion.

• Address interpersonal and professional challenges within the team.

2. Project Management and Execution

• Oversee software development projects, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.

• Act as a bridge between Product and Engineering teams, facilitating coordination and execution.

3. Technical Oversight and Problem-Solving

• Provide guidance on technical issues, code reviews, and architectural decisions.

• Lead in resolving complex technical challenges involving multiple teams.

• Be a strong technical manager to assist with challenges and obstacles.

4. Performance Assurance and Team Development

• Oversee system performance and ensure team performance goals are met.

• Mentor and coach engineers, promoting innovation and optimizing performance.

• Implement and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the engineering team.

5. Operational Oversight

• Supervise collaboration with DevOps for infrastructure and development integration.

• Oversee deployments, ensuring readiness for regular updates and hotfixes.

• Manage technical debt in coordination with the VP of Engineering.

6. Strategic Initiatives and Resource Allocation

• Propose new initiatives for improvements in team structure, IT systems, and technologies.

• Suggest team changes and resource allocations in coordination with the VP of Engineering.

• Review and integrate multi-team task estimations.

7. Path to Promotion - Technical Expertise and Leadership

• Demonstrate the ability to perform surgical fixes and handle emergency situations.

• Skillfully upscale and downscale infrastructure as needed.

• Answer complex questions about feasibility and potential solutions ('Is it possible?').

• Maintain coding skills and the ability to develop proof of concept for new ideas.

• Lead complex projects and manage diverse teams, exhibiting strategic and technical leadership.

Our stack and infrastructure - you need experience in all the areas below.

Laravel (PHP) + VueJS

Multiple apps: web, desktop, mobile

AWS (Aurora MySQL, Redshift, DMS, EC2, CloudFront, S3, Elasticache (Redis), ...)

What You’ll Bring:

• 2-5 years managing a team of software engineers with a track record of attracting and retaining top talent

• 1-3 years of running engineering interviews and hiring for best talent possible.

• Experience building developer platforms, defining the strategy, and providing technical direction to a team.

• Experience building API-driven applications and endpoints.

• Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation).

• A strong ability to reason about how to break problems down into smaller iterative steps.

• 3+ years of tech lead experience including code reviews, infrastructure and architecture.

Problem-solving attitude and Collaborative team spirit.
