Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free.

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a donor relations specialist to join our development team. In this role, you will ensure supporters receive the best customer service, both directly through interactions with donors and third-party fundraisers and indirectly through critical support for the entire development team.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Respond to donor inquiries, via phone and email, in a timely and courteous manner while adhering to Mercy For Animals’ editing process and language and communication style

  • Develop and project-manage content for digital donor-stewardship materials, including newsletters, monthly donor updates, donation forms, development email signatures, and acknowledgment letters, with minimal guidance

  • Provide support, including project management, to the development department during events and special campaigns

  • Manage stewardship donation platforms, such as GivePanel, Double the Donation, and ThankView, including routine updates, audits, and strategy development

  • Routinely conduct research on donor relations best practices

  • Manage and lead special yearly projects for SMS, workplace giving, and end-of-year fundraising

  • Lead the application process for award nominations, such as the Anthem Awards and ADRP International Stewardship Awards

  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures

  • Perform any other duties assigned by team leader

Your qualifications will take our development team to the next level:

  • Minimum of two years’ professional experience in customer service, communications, project management, or a related field

  • Experience in fundraising, nonprofit communications, or customer-service resolution, showing compassion, good listening skills, and a grasp of effective follow-up steps

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM donor databases (strongly preferred)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet competing deadlines (experience in project management preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow Mercy For Animals’ style and editing guidelines

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

  • High level of organization and efficiency

  • Self-motivation and ability to work well independently and under pressure

  • Ability to work creatively and effectively as a team member

  • Proficiency in Google Suite

  • Friendly, positive, and service-oriented personality

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization

  • Commitment and openness to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Colombe Nadeau-O’Shea, the director of donor relations, brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. After earning a master’s degree in fashion business from Ryerson University, Colombe began her career as a consultant and coach in the private sector. But her desire to create a better world for all living beings led her to the farmed animal protection movement.

In 2018, Colombe joined Mercy For Animals as a corporate engagement specialist, collaborating with major food companies across North America to implement meaningful animal welfare policies. In 2020, she transitioned to the development team, where she has held various positions.

Colombe is deeply committed to fostering effective teamwork and positive team dynamics. She values open communication, initiative, ownership, and creative problem-solving while prioritizing a healthy work-life balance for herself and her team.

Outside work, Colombe enjoys traveling the world, staying active, creating abstract art, and spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Luna and Sol.

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of $49,997–$62,997 USD (paid hourly), depending on qualifications. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and 401(k) retirement plan, with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3% of your annual earnings.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values. To ensure fairness in the hiring process, we request that all applicants refrain from submitting materials that are entirely generated by artificial intelligence tools. We recognize that such tools can be useful in refining the tone, grammar, or clarity of these materials, but please ensure that your materials reflect your personal experience, qualifications, and authentic voice.

Our Commitment to You

Mercy For Animals is a globally minded organization. We are committed to the principles of equity and justice, and our culture celebrates authenticity—enabling every team member to shine. All employment decisions are based solely on individual qualifications, job needs, and job requirements, and potential team members of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, veteran status, and ability are encouraged to apply. We strive to include candidates from historically marginalized communities and those from or in communities impacted by environmental, social, and economic injustice.

Come as you are, and help us transform our society and construct a truly compassionate food system.
