Proof of work

We are looking for a Director, Treasury Operations to lead EMEA and scale Kraken’s treasury capabilities across the region, partnering closely with global Treasury leadership and the CFO organization. This role oversees regional liquidity management, banking and payments infrastructure, cash and crypto operations, and regulatory alignment across multiple jurisdictions.

Operating at the intersection of Finance, Risk, Compliance, Data, and Engineering, the Director will strengthen governance, modernize treasury infrastructure, and drive operational excellence as Kraken advances toward public-company standards. We are seeking a strategic yet hands-on leader with deep EMEA expertise, strong accounting and regulatory knowledge, and experience navigating complex, multi-entity environments. The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach in a fast-moving, regulated global business.

The opportunity

  • Lead and scale treasury operations across EMEA, Kraken’s highest-volume region, with full accountability for liquidity management, funding strategy, and operational performance

  • Operate autonomously within the region while aligning to global treasury policy; serve as a strategic deputy and back-up to the Senior Director when required

  • Own short-, medium-, and long-term liquidity planning across EMEA entities, including forecasting, capital allocation, FX management, and cross-border funding optimization

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with regional banking partners, central banks, and payment providers; negotiate services, pricing, and credit structures

  • Ensure compliance with EMEA regulatory requirements (safeguarding, client money, AML, supervisory expectations) and support audits and regulatory engagements

  • Oversee fiat and digital asset treasury operations, including reconciliations, settlements, and operational risk controls across multiple entities and currencies

  • Contribute to the long-term global treasury vision and lead global initiatives aligned with EMEA priorities, including banking strategy, systems implementation, liquidity infrastructure, and automation

  • Drive modernization, scalability, and public-company readiness through enhanced controls, governance, and process automation

  • Partner with Data, Engineering, and Product to develop liquidity dashboards and analytics that inform executive decision-making

  • Build, mentor, and expand a high-performing and grown regional treasury team, strengthening leadership depth and succession planning

  • Support M&A, entity expansion, and regulatory growth within EMEA, including due diligence, banking setup, and integration

  • Maintain robust fraud prevention, business continuity, and disaster recovery frameworks for treasury operations

  • Communicate regional treasury performance, risks, and strategic priorities clearly to global leadership

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills you should HODL

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in treasury, finance, or related functions, with meaningful leadership responsibility

  • Strong experience managing treasury operations across EMEA, including multi-currency, cross-border, and multi-entity environments

  • Background in fintech, cryptocurrency, payments, or financial services strongly preferred

  • Solid understanding of EMEA regulatory frameworks impacting treasury, payments, safeguarding, and liquidity management

  • Experience working with both fiat and digital assets, including wallets, blockchain transactions, and crypto liquidity considerations

  • Proven ability to improve processes, implement treasury technologies, and drive automation and scalability

  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills with banks, PSPs, and financial partners

  • Understanding of capital markets, liquidity risk, and treasury-related financial risk management

  • Strong analytical capabilities, including cash forecasting, financial modeling, and dashboarding/BI tools

  • Clear, confident communicator with experience partnering with senior leaders across functions and geographies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or CTP a plus
