Challenges You Will Solve

The Systems Engineering team at Red Canary is responsible for governance of our public cloud estates including access controls into, implementation of least privilege principles within, and networking among our various public cloud accounts, subscriptions and projects. They are tasked with creating strong guardrails within which all teams using public cloud assets at Red Canary can operate freely and safely. They are also responsible for maintenance of our infrastructure as code repositories to ensure consistency within our development teams and to protect the organization from supply chain threats. And finally, they provide development and operations support for teams within Red Canary that do not have development or operations capabilities. 

As our Director, Systems Engineering you will be responsible for establishing the roadmap for the team and directing efforts to deliver the roadmap. You will establish and deepen relationships with the product development  team to empower your team to operate as partners with development to affect security related architectural changes with the product environment. With your solid understanding of cloud environments, project management, consensus building and resourcefulness, you will drive projects to reduce technical risk within the organization and to enable Canaries to operate safely and effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Establish and deliver a strategic roadmap aligned to the team charter

  • Lead a high-performing team to manage support, performance and improvement of critical IT systems including: AWS Infrastructure, Azure Infrastructure, GCP Infrastructure, Linux servers, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automation tools

  • Champion the team charter with business stakeholders

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership on the technologies listed above

  • Provide leadership and guidance on technical project planning, execution and performance monitoring

  • Mentor and develop members of the system engineering team

  • Ensure IT systems are adhering to security policies and guardrails, minimizing operational incidents

  • Drive a fantastic internal customer experience for technical solution building

  • Design and implement solutions to enable Red Canary technologists to reach maximum productivity

  • Respond to and resolve issues reported by employees by debugging, performing root cause analysis, and working closely with internal and external support teams

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience leading IT Engineering teams 

  • Demonstrated success managing cloud-only infrastructure with infrastructure as code

  • Demonstrated success managing a large number of disparate SaaS systems, complex integrations and automations

  • Experience having designed, implemented, and documented CI/CD strategy for management of infrastructure as code

  • Demonstrated success building a high-performing cloud engineering team

  • An in-depth knowledge infrastructure as code technologies, preferably Terraform, and their application in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, kubernetes) 

  • Hands-on engineering experience and knowledge, specifically within AWS/Azure/GCP and MacOS-heavy environments

  • A demonstrated ability to use continuous improvement methods with cloud systems and key processes

  • A track record of collaborating in a cross functional environment

  • A high degree of empathy for the Customer, and feel the only measure of success is how well our products fulfill customer needs

  • A positive attitude and default to action 

  • Excellent communication skills

Targeted base salary : $225,000 + bonus eligibility and equity depending on experience.
