Director - People Business Partner
The Role
As a Director, People Business Partner, you will serve as a strategic thought partner to our executives and leaders. You’ll shape and execute people strategies that enable engagement, strengthen leadership, and enable business impact. You’ll provide counsel on organizational design, performance enablement, talent planning, and leadership development - balancing near-term priorities with long-term organizational health and cultural alignment. You’ll use data-driven insights and judgment to identify trends, influence decisions, and lead high-impact initiatives.
You will report to our SVP, People & Talent and partner with the People Ops and Talent teams.
This position is not eligible to be performed in Hawaii.
What You’ll Do
Serve as a strategic thought and business partner to senior leaders, translating business goals into integrated people strategies that drive organizational health, performance, and scalability at Modern Health.
Design and execute progressive talent strategies for your client groups, including performance enablement, talent reviews, succession planning, and leadership development to strengthen engagement, development, and raise the bar.
Coach and develop leaders to build high-performing, inclusive teams — recognizing and rewarding top performance, addressing underperformance, and elevating leadership excellence aligned with Modern Health’s values.
Lead organizational design and change efforts, partnering with leaders to build scalable structures and support smooth transitions through periods of growth and transformation.
Use data and insights to identify trends, diagnose root causes, and drive measurable improvements in team health, productivity, and employee experience.
Drive complex, cross-functional people initiatives end-to-end, managing scoping, planning, execution, and continuous improvement of core people processes (e.g., compensation, performance management, talent development, employee relations, change management, organizational design).
Champion culture and employee experience, ensuring fairness, inclusion, and consistency in decision-making, surfacing patterns in employee sentiment, and proactively strengthening engagement and trust.
Be responsible for overall program management for people team initiatives and roadmap
Collaborate with other People Team functions (People Ops, Recruiting) and key cross-functional stakeholders to inform the design and implementation of strategic people programs and initiatives
Act as a culture ambassador, fostering equity, diversity and inclusion, and belonging. Partner with and support our ERG’s.
Use good judgment and utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to inform key business and people decisions
Address, investigate and resolve employee relations issues
Uphold and promote Modern Health’s values
Who You Are
12+ years of People/HR experience, with at least 4+ years of HRBP experience partnering directly with Executive and leaders
2+ years experience in a People leadership role, ideally in a health or tech and high-growth company
Experience with organizational and cultural transformation
Strong program management acumen/skills
Ability to strike a balance between strategic partnership-building and getting things done
Comfortable utilizing qualitative and quantitative approaches to problem solving and root cause analysis to tell a story and translate it into actionable strategy
Excellent judgment and problem solving capabilities; as well as ability to make pragmatic and thoughtful decisions
Deep sense of empathy and understanding for the needs of diverse groups of people
Expertise in building trusting relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders (i.e., Finance, Legal)
An advocate for others, speaking up even when it’s difficult, and seeing others accomplish their goals
Organizational, facilitation, and presentation skills
Have a passion for seeing others grow through coaching, mentoring, and career development
Ability to travel and work in office as needed
