Role Summary:

The Director, Product Design and Research will be responsible for generating and applying insights to customer experience strategy and design. They will play a critical role as subject matter expert in evaluative research methodologies, helping to bring excellence, rigor, and consistency to our work with clients. Ideally, they will have experience in working closely with product and design counterparts to deeply understand the people we’re designing for. Work closely with client and project stakeholders to understand business goals and challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the direction and vision for the product design function

  • Manage and grow your team of product leaders and designers

  • Define research questions and methodological approach

  • Lead the execution of design and user research programs, including data collection, analysis, and synthesis of results

  • Create the team cadences and rituals that will lead your team to success and ensure cross-pollination of thought

  • Set standards and best practices and curate tools and workflow

  • Collaborate with your peer leads in engineering and product to ensure the overall process is working within cross-functional teams

  • Be responsible and accountable for upholding what good design is and promoting that within the organization

  • Participate in the sales cycle and help to plan and estimate project proposals

  • Lead and set direction for new client efforts, and/or oversee lead designers in that function

  • Assist in curating our internal branding and marketing

  • Work with company management to set and report on KPIs and measures of success

  • Collaborate with strategy and analytics to ensure our products are creating a measurable impact for our clients and that data is bing leveraged appropriately to inform design decisions

  • Create, stand up, and help to sell new design services or capabilities

Who you are / Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in design and research management at a top consumer technology company or consumer focused healthcare or health- tech company 

  • 3+ years of direct management experience in growing design and research teams and career pathing for individuals and managers 

  • MBA or Bachelor’s degree in Design or similar field or equivalent work experience

  • A strong background working in creative departments and within the tech industry

  • A proven history of running a team and/or managing people

  • Background preferred with - 

  • Creative / Art direction

  • Graphic Design

  • Interaction / Product Design

  • Design systems

  • Information Architecture

  • User Research

  • Motion design

  • Copywriting

  • Product management / Product thinking

  • Client management experience

  • A clear understanding of graphic design and UI design fundamentals

  • An interest in learning and contributing to product strategy and its related exercises - stakeholder workshops, design sprints, analytics, research, etc.

  • A love for both art direction, brand and product design

$153,000 - $170,000 a year

The actual salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, market data/ranges, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for a yearly bonus and equity.
