Director - Infrastructure (Software Delivery & Enablement)
An overview of this role
As Director, Infrastructure you will lead the modernization of GitLab’s software delivery and developer experience teams, overseeing a large organization of around 60 to 80 people. You will drive the transformation of our software development lifecycle, from how developers build and test code to how customers receive and deploy GitLab, ensuring a seamless and scalable delivery across both SaaS and self-managed environments. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of our platform by consolidating delivery methods, introducing AI-driven efficiencies, and advancing the quality of GitLab. Reporting directly to our VP of Platforms, your impact in the first year will include expanding and integrating teams, modernizing engineering practices, and delivering a streamlined, high-quality software experience for our global customer base.
What you’ll do
Lead the consolidation and modernization of software delivery processes across both SaaS and self-managed GitLab products, ensuring a seamless developer-to-customer lifecycle.
Drive the expansion and integration of delivery teams, managing an existing organization of 60+ engineers and senior leaders to meet evolving business needs.
Collaborate closely with product leadership and peer directors to align delivery and quality strategies with product goals and customer requirements.
Own the strategy for scalable software development and deployments such as, designing new developer tooling, driving API first culture, and transitioning customers to recommended installation methods such as Kubernetes-based platforms.
Foster cross-functional partnerships with infrastructure and development engineering teams to enhance operational stability and software reliability.
Measure and improve key delivery metrics to ensure high-quality, timely releases that meet customer expectations.
Mentor and develop senior managers and principal engineers, building a strong leadership bench to support ongoing growth and innovation.
What you’ll bring
Experience leading and managing large teams, with the ability to oversee an organization of 60 or more people, including senior managers and principal engineers.
Proven expertise in software delivery across both SaaS and self-managed environments, with a clear understanding of the nuances between these deployment models.
Demonstrated success in driving transformation initiatives, particularly evolving traditional quality engineering practices into modern developer experience and test platform approaches.
Strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, from developer workflows through to customer delivery and operational stability.
Background in platform engineering and infrastructure, with operational experience that informs decisions about software delivery and platform stability.
Ability to integrate developer experience tools with software delivery processes to improve quality and efficiency.
Effective collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with product leadership, peers, and direct reports in a globally distributed, asynchronous environment.
Openness to diverse professional backgrounds and transferable skills, valuing a broad perspective on software delivery and platform operations.

The team is responsible for the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle at GitLab, encompassing both developer experience and the delivery of the product to customers in SaaS and self-managed environments. The team operates across multiple regions with a focus on asynchronous collaboration to ensure alignment and efficiency. Their mission is to modernize and transform GitLab’s development and delivery processes, ensuring the quality and scalability of what we deliver to our customers. Existing GitLab Delivery and Developer Experience teams are ready to embark on the next stage of their lifecycle, focusing on consolidating diverse delivery methods into streamlined, customer-friendly installation options while continuously improving developer tools and operational stability.
The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of the United States only. This range is intended to reflect the role's base salary rate in locations throughout the US. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, alignment with market data, and geographic location. The base salary range does not include any bonuses, equity, or benefits. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.
