At MyFitnessPal, our vision is to be the most trusted brand for improving your health through better food choices. We believe good health starts with what you eat. We provide the tools and resources to reach your weight management goals.

MyFitnessPal is looking for exceptional leaders to help further our mission to improve the health of every body through better food choices. Our mobile and web applications are used by millions of people around the globe and you and your teams will have an impact on them every single day.

The Director of Product Engineering excels at leading directly across a multidisciplinary engineering team as well as through deep partnership with product management peers. At MyFitnessPal, we’re on a transition to adopt the Product Operating Model, focusing on user impact by measuring outcomes over outputs, harnessing data, rapidly experimenting and learning to quickly iterate on successful ideas to deliver on our product vision.

Essential Duties:

As the Director of Product Engineering you are responsible for multiple engineering squads, elevating their managers and teammates’ ability to support the outcomes most impactful to our customers. You will ensure our engineering teams are closely partnered with Product and Design, supporting rapid discovery, effective transition to delivery, and high quality releases. We measure ourselves by improving shared KPIs that grow our business while addressing key customer problems.

You will coach managers in weekly one-on-one meetings to be effective in both their people management and delivery management. They should care about each team member individually and aid them in both their personal growth and their ability to work as a team. They should have a hands-on approach to delivery management, ensuring backlogs are healthy, maintenance and tech debt work is scheduled, and work is broken down effectively and in a timely manner.

You will build great relationships with peers in and out of engineering, learning and improving together. You will maintain a broad business understanding, working with other senior leaders to meet business objectives while setting relevant metrics for your teams that align to Product and Technology strategies.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead by example, embodying our three engineering values:

    • Build with Others, for Others

    • Focus on Impact

    • Learn and Iterate

  • Work cross-functionally with Product and Design leaders to set strategy and ensure engineering objectives are aligned

  • Work with other engineering leaders to ensure our technical foundation grows stronger and more resilient

  • Manage team effectiveness through hiring, mentorship, coaching, and performance management

  • Clear roadblocks and friction points that may slow teams down

  • Set strategic engineering goals for both short-term and long-term success of the business, and ensure they are being met

  • Live our core values in all you do:

    • Be Kind and Care

    • Live Good Health

    • Be Data-Inspired

    • Champion Change

    • Leave it Better than You Found It

    • Make It Happen

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • Have had success leading engineering teams in the Product Operating Model. Experience with the Product Operating Model is highly preferred

  • Excel in an environment that emphasizes rapid experimentation and metrics

  • Thrive on close collaboration with other cross-disciplinary leaders to achieve results

  • Have worked on high-traffic, scalable mobile applications

  • Have working knowledge of common patterns and software engineering and best practices

  • Have a degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent real-world experience

  • Identify with MyFitnessPal’s mission and values

Please consider applying even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications. Research shows you can still be considered for a position if you meet some of the requirements. At MyFitnessPal, we’re building a fitness product for everyone and believe our team should reflect that. We encourage people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives to apply.

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $170,000 - $235,000. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, MyFitnessPal offers a wide range of comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, parental planning, mental health benefits, annual performance bonus, a 401(k) plan and match, responsible time off, monthly wellness and technology allowances, and others.
