WooCommerce is one of the most popular commerce platforms on the web, powering millions of stores, including our own at woo.com. In fact, one in five online stores are powered by Woo, including Bjork’s official store, and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team’s official store. Built on WordPress, Woo empowers anyone, anywhere, to sell anything. We partner with global technology brands such as Stripe, PayPal, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Klaviyo and others, integrating their services with Woo to provide all the tools businesses need to run and grow their online stores.

As part of the Automattic family, Woo is fully distributed, with no physical offices. The flexibility and autonomy that come with working from home are in our DNA–we provide benefits and resources to support your growth while doing your best work from anywhere in the world. We have a huge footprint, but we’re a small company. That means everyone here has the opportunity to make a visible, profound, and lasting difference while helping the store owners who rely on Woo every day.

About the role:

We're expanding our Developer Experience team at WooCommerce, seeking an experienced Developer Advocate to help developers discover, engage with, and succeed on our platform. As part of our team within the Customer Marketing department, you'll create technical content, foster community connections, and represent developer needs to shape our platform's future.

This role is remote, but English language proficiency is a requirement.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including tutorials and implementation resources.

  • Facilitate developer communications through blog posts, newsletters, and launch materials.

  • Support the creation and facilitation of community programs, from developer office hours to major virtual or in-person events.

  • Moderate and support developer community spaces (Slack, forums).

  • Foster connection between WooCommerce and the developer community.

  • Gather developer feedback and represent their perspective to internal teams.

Requirements:

  • Strong hands-on development experience with PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress, particularly in WooCommerce environments.

  • Proven track record creating technical content that drives developer understanding and adoption.

  • Experience building developer communities through events, programs, or advocacy work.

  • Demonstrated ability to represent developer needs while collaborating with product teams.

  • Excellence in written and verbal English communication.

  • Comfort working remotely with distributed teams.

Salary range: $90,000-$130,000 USD - Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.

We are searching for high-caliber candidates with the skills and qualities to have a net positive for Automattic. Pay will reflect the potential contribution and the impact you can bring, which may, in some cases, go beyond the range stated for the right candidate.

This isn’t your typical work-from-home job—we are a fully-remote company with an open vacation policy. Read more about our compensation philosophy.
