About Panoptyc

At Panoptyc, we're on a mission to revolutionize loss prevention. Using visual AI and manual reviewers, we help retailers detect theft in over 15,000 markets across the United States. From Fortune 500 giants to local businesses, our impact is far-reaching. As a fully remote, rapidly growing team, we're excited to invite top talent worldwide to join us in reshaping the future of retail security.

About the Role

We're seeking a hands-on, systems-minded Controller to partner closely with our VP of Finance, own the day-to-day accounting function, and build a faster, audit-ready close. You'll leverage AI tools and NetSuite to move with speed and precision — without compromising controls. This role starts fractional with a clear path to full-time.

Role structure: This position begins as a fractional W-2 role (~20–26 hours/week), targeting conversion to full-time around September 2026 to align with our NetSuite implementation. Conversion timing may shift and is not guaranteed, but this is intended to become full-time for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

Own the Close & Elevate Reporting: Drive the monthly close calendar, checklist, cutoffs, and review cadence. Deliver clean financial statements with clear variance and flux analysis, continuously improving close speed and accuracy.

Protect the Balance Sheet: Lead monthly reconciliations across bank/credit card, AR, AP, payroll, inventory, and deferred revenue. Maintain audit-ready support schedules, surface issues early, and ensure clear ownership and resolution timelines.

Build Audit Readiness: Strengthen policies, controls, and documentation standards. Maintain PBC-ready schedules and support external CPAs and tax teams — positioning the company for future audits with confidence.

Partner on NetSuite Implementation: Support COA and segment design, approvals, workflows, roles, permissions, and reporting structure. Bring a controls-first mindset to every system and process decision.

Lead a Distributed Team: Manage onshore and offshore accounting resources with SOPs, SLAs, and QA standards. Identify and onboard additional offshore support as needed.

Implement AI-Enabled Workflows: Deploy AI to support exception detection, reconciliation assistance, close package drafting, and documentation indexing — always maintaining human review, accountability, and strong control standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven Controller or Assistant Controller experience with full ownership of close and financial reporting

  • NetSuite experience required (implementation experience strongly preferred)

  • Strong GAAP foundation with audit and external CPA/tax support experience

  • Experience leading distributed and offshore accounting teams

  • High standards for process, controls, documentation, and follow-through

  • Comfortable working remotely and flexing hours during close and cutover periods

Nice to Have

  • QuickBooks Online experience (we're transitioning from QBO/Stripe)

  • Experience in a multi-revenue-stream environment (SaaS + hardware + services)

  • Track record of improving close speed and quality while strengthening controls

What We're Looking For

  • Thrives with high ownership in a lean, fast-moving environment

  • Builds structure and systems from ambiguity

  • Balances strategic thinking with disciplined execution

  • Brings rigor and precision to every deliverable

  • Views problems as opportunities to build something better
