Job Description

Responsibility

Part-time Contributing Faculty in the Undergraduate Psychology Program instruct content courses in the field they are credentialed to teach (e.g., developmental psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology) as well as foundational courses such as introductory psychology, statistics, and research methodology.  

Course Teaching

Contributing Faculty members are assigned to teach courses and interact with students using the Canvas learning platform.  Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, discussion interaction and grading students’ work must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Walden University.  Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and provide substantive, high-quality grading feedback to students through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).   Availability Walden expects Contributing Faculty to be reasonably accessible to students and available to students outside of the classroom via email.  Per the faculty handbook, faculty must respond to students’ emails and inquiries within 48 hours.  Faculty members will publish their availability to students in the classroom, and/or other appropriate documents.  The university suggests regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or regular online chats. Faculty must be active in the classrooms at least four days per week.

Training All new Contributing Faculty Members receive specific training from Walden University in online teaching techniques, use of the LMS platform, specifics of the policies, procedures and degree programs of the School or College in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity of student work, and may include the research supervision of scholarly projects if applicable.

Qualifications

Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree in the discipline being taught, and may be expected to be licensed or license-eligible to teach in specific programs. Faculty Members must maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications to continue to teach at Walden University.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited institution required. With specialization in areas such as: Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, General Psychology. 

  • Minimum 3 years teaching in fully online instructional setting at the undergraduate level required.

  • Experience teaching undergraduate college students in a variety of psychology courses such as, but not limited to: social psychology, child and adolescent development, psychology of gender, psychological disorders, theories of personality, research methods, statistics, treatment of addictions, and forensic psychology.    

  • Evidence of continuing scholarly work within the past 5 years.

  • Proficient in APA 7th edition.

  • Strong research methodology background in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods in research preferred.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience as a Subject Matter Expert and developing online courses preferred.

Technology Requirements:

Contributing Faculty provide their own laptops and are expected to use the Walden University LMS and the Microsoft 365 tools with their assigned Walden email addresses in their Walden activities.  Walden University provides a Walden e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, university and college cloud services, and other faculty communications tools.

The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is as follows:

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course

  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Walden also offers other opportunities for its contributing faculty members, such as dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring.
