Contract Associate, Community Operations (MENA, SSA & NWE focus)
Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an Associate, Community Operations to support our Regional Funding Committees.The Wikimedia Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. The Foundation operates one of the world’s top five websites and has global reach and impact. At the core of the projects are volunteers who curate the knowledge that the world has come to rely on.The Community Resources team is the primary funding function of the Wikimedia Foundation ensuring that we support the Affiliates and volunteer contributors of the Wikimedia Movement by offering institutional and individual funding to help achieve the Movement’s goals. To support the movement’s commitment to Knowledge Equity, the team prioritizes proactive outreach to communities that structures of power and privilege have left out. The Community Operations Associate will support the Regional Funding Committees -- volunteer groups that guide resource distribution across the Wikimedia movement. This role will focus on supporting the Middle East & North Africa (MENA); Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA); and Northern and Western Europe (NWE) Committees (total of 3 regions), ensuring their operations run smoothly across multiple time zones and diverse cultural contexts. The Associate will provide coordination, administrative, and engagement support.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule committee meetings across MENA, SSA, NWE time zones.
Prepare agendas, take minutes, and track action items.
Maintain committee documentation and knowledge systems.
Manage committee communication channels and support knowledge-sharing.
Coordinate translation and accessibility support for committee meetings and materials.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of committee members in the region.
Facilitate communication between committees, Program Officers, and applicants.
Identify and implement process improvements to streamline committee work.
Required Qualifications
Remote candidates based in the Middle East, North Africa or Sub-Shara Africa preferred
Bachelor’s degree + 2 years related experience, Master’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
Experience in operations, coordination, or program support.
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication in English; additional MENA, SSA, NWE languages strongly preferred. French speaking is ideal.
Ability to collaborate across diverse cultures and time zones.
Proficiency with online collaboration tools (Google Workspace, Zoom, project management tools, Asana).
Desired Qualifications
Experience supporting volunteer committees, working groups, or community networks.
Familiarity with Wikimedia projects, open-source communities, or global nonprofits.
Experience coordinating translation/interpretation or accessibility needs.
Comfort working independently and remotely.

The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the MENA [231,639/AED, 235,693/ILS, 676,236/EGP] and based within SSA [663,404/ZAR, 277,784/GHS, 17,518,225/NGN, 125,114,719/UGX]with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
