The team

We are seeking a Lead Compliance Associate to support the development and oversight of the firm’s UK regulatory compliance framework across its regulated activities.

This role sits within the UK Compliance function and focuses on compliance monitoring and testing, policy governance, regulatory reporting oversight, compliance training, and regulatory compliance assurance across the firm’s UK operations, including its MiFID investment firm, UK electronic money institution (EMI), and digital asset exchange activities.

The role will support the continued strengthening of the firm’s compliance governance arrangements, ensuring that regulatory obligations are appropriately implemented, monitored, and embedded across the business. This is a second line of defence role focused on regulatory compliance oversight rather than financial crime compliance.

The opportunity

  • Support the design, maintenance, and execution of the UK compliance monitoring programme covering regulatory obligations applicable to the firm’s regulated activities

  • Conduct risk-based compliance monitoring reviews and thematic testing to assess the effectiveness of regulatory controls, processes, and governance arrangements

  • Prepare monitoring reports and document monitoring findings, identify control weaknesses or areas for improvement, and support the tracking and remediation of identified issues

  • Support oversight of the firm’s UK regulatory reporting obligations, ensuring submissions are completed accurately and on time

  • Support the development, maintenance, and review of the firm’s UK compliance policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring policies remain aligned with regulatory requirements

  • Deliver training on regulatory requirements, policy updates, and emerging compliance risks where appropriate

  • Prepare compliance management information and reporting for internal governance forums

  • Assist with the implementation of new regulatory requirements affecting the firm’s MiFID, EMI, and digital asset activities

Skills you should HODL

  • 5+ years’ experience in regulatory compliance within financial services

  • Experience supporting firms subject to FCA regulation, ideally including MiFID firms, payments/EMI institutions, or trading platforms

  • Experience working with compliance monitoring and testing frameworks

  • Familiarity with FCA regulatory expectations for second line compliance oversight

  • Experience supporting compliance policies and procedures

  • Experience with regulatory reporting oversight or governance frameworks

  • Strong analytical and written skills, with the ability to produce clear compliance documentation and reporting

Nice to haves

  • Experience within crypto, fintech, trading, or electronic trading environments

  • Familiarity with UK regulatory developments relating to digital assets

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Kraken is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate all Krakenites for their diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions and unique perspectives. We hire strictly based on merit, meaning we seek out the candidates with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills considered the most suitable for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgable about crypto!

We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments are designed to evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Assessment results are considered alongside other relevant information, such as experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.

As an equal opportunity employer, we don’t tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. Whether that’s based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state or local laws.
