About the job
We are seeking a Compensation Manager to partner closely with our R&D organization—including Engineering, Product, Design, and Data Science—to design, implement, and manage compensation programs that attract, motivate, and retain top technical talent. This role is a strategic advisor to leaders and HR Business Partners, bringing deep expertise in benchmarking, market trends, job architecture, and equity compensation within high-growth tech environments.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping our compensation philosophy for R&D, guiding annual and mid-year cycles, leveling and job framework decisions, and advising on offers, promotions, and pay equity analyses and recommendations.
This role will report to the Sr. Director, Compensation and will partner with the broader people team as well as external, cross-functional partners.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
Help facilitate corporate compensation programs such as annual compensation review cycles, promotion cycles, pay equity review, market calibration, survey participation, etc.
Design and deliver compensation structures and methodologies that will scale for long term durability and global expansion in partnership with the broader compensation team. Create and deliver training materials on compensation fundamentals for leaders and managers.
Create dynamic compensation models and dashboards and articulate insights and recommend solutions based on your data analyses.
Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts from other teams and functions to address and provide solutions to ever-changing business needs.
Manage relationships with stakeholders, leaders, internal and external partners with emotional intelligence, curiosity and integrity. Own compensation products from start to end with the customer in mind.
Develop policies and processes that support innovation and growth while upholding compliance and minimizing risk. Memorialize key decisions, methodologies, processes, policies and add to the compensation repository/library for future reference and utilization.
Be a trusted advisor. Partner with Human Resource Business Partners and senior business leaders to understand their operational issues and opportunities and create automated solutions to scale.

*Required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably supporting technical organizations or other relevant experience
Experience with equity compensation structures at a publicly traded company
Excellent project management skills and experience with compensation program design, delivery, and changement management
Strong compensation analytics background (modeling, dashboards) and advanced proficiency with spreadsheets
Strong experience with Human Resources Information System (preferably Workday)
Experience with market pricing, survey participation and accessing survey data from provider
Extensive knowledge of HR products and services and awareness of HR strategy around talent identification, attraction, engagement and retention
Verbal, written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
An owner mindset, coupled with innovative thinking and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A laser-focus on quality of deliverable and solution for the customer
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with no trepidation with ambiguity or lack of a playbook
Desired:
Prior experience in a R&D compensation consulting role
Prior experience with PAVE, Compa, or other comp tools
Location
This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, WA.
Travel

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Washington State. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.
The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $128,560 - 160,700.
Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $136,000 - $170,000.
Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $151,120 - $188,900.
This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
