Company Description

LF Energy is the open source foundation for shared development of open technology platforms, data, and standards to solve common challenges for delivering affordable, reliable, safe, and clean energy. We bring together grid operators, technology providers, research institutions, regulators, and policymakers to build the digital infrastructure for modern energy systems. Our projects address critical challenges to accelerate the energy transition, such as grid flexibility, renewable integration, market coordination, and operational efficiency. PowSyBl enables transparent grid simulation as scale. OpenSTEF forecasts and optimizes short-term energy forecasts. OpenSynth democratizes access to grid data while preserving privacy and security. These tools, and others in our portfolio, are production-grade, deployed across European networks, and built by the organizations that depend on them. LF Energy is part of the Linux Foundation, the trusted home for the most critical open technology projects in the world that ensures neutral governance, transparent decision-making, and infrastructure proven across critical industries.

The energy sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in a century. Open source tools make this transition faster, cheaper, and more equitable by reducing vendor lock-in, improving interoperability, and distributing development costs across the ecosystem. We're building the commons that powers the energy transition and modern energy services.

Job Description

The Role

You will drive open source adoption across European energy infrastructure by nurturing relationships with system operators, regulators, and policymakers to help deliver affordable, reliable, safe, and clean energy. This means translating technical capabilities into business value, identifying regulatory barriers, and creating pathways for organizations to contribute to and deploy LF Energy projects. The work combines strategic engagement with hands-on execution. You will organize workshops and events, represent LF Energy at industry conferences, facilitate special interest groups, and oversee funded technical development with subcontractors. You will partner with Linux Foundation teams to document successes and build thought leadership. You will track adoption metrics and report on community growth.

This is a two-year, full-time position reporting to the Executive Director of LF Energy, with potential for extension based on funding availability and performance.

Location and Work Arrangements

Remote position based in Europe. This role requires frequent travel throughout Europe (up to 30%) to attend events, facilitate workshops, and meet with stakeholders. Occasional work outside standard business hours or across time zones may be required to collaborate with global teams.

Responsibilities

Strong candidates will have experience across multiple areas below. If three or more describe your background, we want to hear from you.

Community Growth & Engagement

  • Build and nurture relationships with TSOs, DSOs, and key decision-makers across Europe to drive adoption of LF Energy projects

  • Organize, lead and facilitate in-person and virtual community events, workshops, and training sessions across Europe

  • Deliver presentations and participate in panel discussions at industry events

  • Launch and nurture an online educational program to lower adoption barriers, cultivate community connections, and train the next generation of system operators on industrial-grade open source collaboration and LF Energy projects

Policy & Advocacy

  • Lead policy and regulatory advocacy and education efforts in Europe, identifying and addressing barriers to open source adoption in the energy sector

  • Build trusted relationships with regulators and policymakers to advance supportive frameworks for open source energy solutions, identifying barriers and overcoming barriers for adoption and contribution

Program Management & Leadership

  • Oversee LF Energy-funded initiatives in Europe involving subcontractors, ensuring technical quality, alignment with community goals, timeliness of deliverables, and appropriate transparency with governing bodies

  • Facilitate special interest group meetings, driving consensus and decision-making across diverse stakeholders

Communications & Reporting

  • Partner with marketing to amplify community successes, engage media, drive event participation, and establish thought leadership

  • Collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data on community growth, adoption metrics, and impact

Qualifications

Required

  • Established network and track record of building of relationships with European TSOs, DSOs, regulators and policymakers

  • Ability to understand and communicate the business value of technology solutions across a diverse set of stakeholders

  • Technical expertise at the intersection of energy systems (grid operations, power systems, energy markets) and digital technology (software, data platforms, automation)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience presenting technical and policy topics to executive, regulatory, and technical audiences

  • Proven ability to build alignment among diverse stakeholders and unite organizations around open source projects, driving consensus and collective action in distributed and asynchronous environments.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to work independently and drive complex initiatives from concept to execution with minimal supervision

  • Team player with a positive, solution-oriented approach

  • Comfort with frequent travel throughout Europe (up to 30%) and occasional work outside standard business hours

  • Fluency in English

Preferred

  • Experience with open source communities and development models

  • Fluency in French, German, Spanish, Italian, or other major European language(s)

  • Previous experience as a European grid operator or regulator
