Our team's mission is to build the biggest, most trusted marketplace of live events, globally. How can we create more opportunities for our users to connect with artists and their communities? How can Spotify better support the #1 revenue stream of our creator partners?  How can Spotify improve the live experience from discovery to post-gig experiences? Where will the live industry be in 3-5 years? What should Spotify’s role be in the live space? We are tackling these questions and more.

We are looking for a thoughtful, well-rounded Backend Engineer, to join our team to build our Live Events catalog systems: the systems behind surfaces like the live events feed (open.spotify.com/concerts). In Live Events you'll help both fans and artists connect over what shows are available and around them. We're looking for an engineer who values team success over personal success and is comfortable navigating ambiguity. The ideal candidate will be someone for whom the excitement of rapid product development is a draw.

What You'll Do

  • Evolve and scale Spotify's backend systems for live event ingestion and distribution.

  • Ensure that our customers’ experiences are the very best they can be. These customers include not only Spotify users who discover concerts through our platform, but also our internal teams who liaise with artists.

  • Take operational responsibility for the services that are owned by the team, including taking part in an on-call rotation.

  • Work with squads across the organization to develop and scale the platform.

  • Be hands on and deliver on complex backend tasks that bring the joy of Live music to Spotify users.

Who You Are

  • You are experienced with Java and have an intermediate to advanced understanding of distributed, high-volume services, JVM concepts, and architecture patterns.

  • You have experience designing, implementing, and scaling cloud-native software components on providers like AWS or GCP is highly desirable.

  • You are deeply familiar with SQL-like languages and relational databases.

  • You are experienced in the architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scalability, quality) of microservices and cloud infrastructure.

  • You have a growth mentality, are curious, and are not afraid to be experimental. You share your ideas and continuously improve yourself and the team around you.

  • You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high-quality code.

  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and can communicate your ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Where You'll Be

  • This role will ideally be located in the UK, Sweden, or potentially one of our other EMEA locations *excluding France for now due to on-call restrictions.
