We're seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our Ads Measurement team at Spotify. You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external partners (such as advertisers, agencies, and third-party measurement providers), and other ad platform teams to design scalable backend services, data pipelines, and APIs that power precise and trustworthy ad measurement. You’ll contribute to high-impact projects like building real-time attribution systems, enabling cross-device and cross-platform measurement, supporting incrementality testing, and integrating with industry standards.
Who You Are
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Spotify's advertising systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, product, data, and other backend teams) to deliver end-to-end features
Own and improve performance, reliability, and observability of backend systems
Contribute to system architecture, technical strategy, and design reviews
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in a modern backend stack
Participate in on-call rotation and ensure smooth operation of production systems
Drive technical discussions, mentor peers, and support a culture of continuous improvement
What You'll Do
You are a highly motivated and communicative engineer who is passionate about collaborating on difficult engineering problems.
You have 4+ years of experience as a backend engineer, with strong proficiency in Java and a demonstrated comfort working within backend service architectures.
You are a strong advocate for code quality, testing, and automation
You have experience with distributed systems, high-volume services, production deployment, big data processing technologies, and system design
You are familiar with APIs, stakeholders, and agile methodologies
Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
Understanding of end-user experience, quality, and modern engineering practices
Collaborative attitude with a strong desire to work with others and make a difference
Believes data is a powerful tool for informed decision-making
You have experience with data pipelines or Scala (a plus, not required)
Where You'll Be
We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be on the West Coast of the North American region as long as we have a work location.
Working hours? The team operates in EST time zones for collaboration.
The United States base range for this position is $132,949.00 - 189,927.00 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, a monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
