Job Description

The Associate Director of Engineering will lead our Platform and DevOps engineering teams. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and reliable infrastructure and DevOps solutions, automating processes, and collaborating with development teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our software development lifecycle and ensuring the highest level of service quality for clients & stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a passion for building great products. This leadership role is also a key contributor to team culture and morale and is responsible for working with the AVP, Engineering & Technical Operations to build a scalable, sustainable team by refining org structure, developing technical career paths, and creating a team environment that attracts and retains top talent.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers, infrastructure engineers, and DevOps professionals, including line managers.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and high performance within the team.

  • Manage the staffing levels and makeup of each team as well as onboarding/offboarding 

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for platform engineering, infrastructure, and DevOps to support business goals.

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our solutions, infrastructure/network topology, and overall company mission and objectives

  • Communicate company context so teams understand needs, priorities, and goals and how their work feeds into these larger efforts

  • Manage cloud infrastructure (e.g., Google Cloud) to ensure high availability, security, and performance.

  • Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, and incident management processes are in place.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and reliable platform solutions.

  • Collaborate with other leaders to align platform and infrastructure goals with the overall engineering strategy.

  • Define automation and processes required to deploy, manage, configure, scale, and monitor internal, product, and cloud-based applications.

  • Active participation in high level team activities such as suggesting architecture improvements, cybersecurity mitigations, recommending process improvements, conducting tool evaluations, and researching new technologies to stay current with industry trends and advancement in DevOps. 

  • Management and support of infrastructure and development applications including continuous integration, source code management, and hosted applications to ensure optimal performance, availability, and security.

  • Drive technical decisions and work with product management and across non-technical organizations to prioritize and drive engineering investments.

  • Management of third-party vendors during project work or service outages, including root cause analysis when necessary.

  • Champion DevOps culture and practices across the organization.

  • Oversee development of key team processes, workflows and frameworks.

  • Maintain awareness and control of cloud infrastructure costs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, CIS, Engineering, or related field or equivalent education / work experience preferred

  • 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure management, and DevOps, with at least 3 years in a leadership role

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams

  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI)

  • Solid understanding of networking, security best practices, and infrastructure monitoring

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex technical challenges

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad background and exposure to all areas of information technology, including software development, Infrastructure, DevOps, cloud technologies (i.e. containers), security, networking and business continuity planning

  • Immersive experience in leading and transforming software engineering teams in DevOps Transformation (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Monitoring & Logging, Automation)

  • Value Stream Management/Mapping knowledge and experience

The salary range for this role is $144,000-$180,000 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus targeted at 15% and restricted stock units. The base pay offered will be determined based on relevant factors such as experience, education, and geographic location.
