Technical Lead I - Fintech Discounts
POS-29555
About the Team
The Fintech Discounts team is redefining how HubSpot uses discounts as a strategic product, not just a sales tool. Our mission is to empower growth by delivering flexible, programmatic, and value-based discounting systems that drive better purchasing decisions and enable scalable revenue models.
Historically, discounts were a static feature of the quoting process. This team is building a platform that supports everything from discretionary sales rep discounts to automated incentive programs — playing a vital role in HubSpot’s revenue engine and evolving how we go to market.
You’ll be joining a highly collaborative cross-functional team, working alongside a Product Manager and multiple experienced senior engineers.
About the Role
As a Backend Technical Lead I, you’ll operate at the intersection of backend engineering excellence and business impact. You will lead backend projects that power how we price, package, and sell HubSpot — influencing strategic outcomes at a company-wide level.
In this role, you will:
Lead the design, development, and scaling of backend systems that support discounting and future pricing mechanics.
Guide both short-term execution and long-term architectural decisions for evolving the discounts product into a flexible, high-leverage platform.
Collaborate with your Product Manager and business stakeholders to shape direction and define success.
Advocate for elegant technical solutions that solve complex business challenges.
Foster team growth through mentorship, collaboration, and strong execution.
Operate autonomously while making decisions that balance engineering quality with product velocity.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves
Backend Mastery: Proficiency in HubSpot’s backend stack (e.g., Java, Dropwizard, Kafka, GraphQL, MySQL) and a passion for building resilient, scalable systems.
Product-Engineering Hybrid Thinking: A demonstrated ability to influence product strategy through a deep understanding of pricing, business incentives, and customer value.
AI-curious: You’ve independently explored AI tools and are excited about applying them to improve developer efficiency and product intelligence.
Strong Ownership & Decision-Making: You lead with autonomy, take initiative, and are comfortable influencing direction beyond your immediate scope.
Excellent Collaboration: Proven success working cross-functionally with product, finance, pricing strategy, and other teams.
Problem-Solving Orientation: Energized by tackling complex business problems with creative, scalable, and efficient solutions.
Why This Role Is Exciting
You’ll directly influence HubSpot’s revenue model through infrastructure that drives how we sell.
You’ll lead work that is central to company-wide strategic priorities, including usage-based pricing and AI innovation.
You’ll work in a highly autonomous, product-led culture that values engineering leadership and cross-functional input.
You'll join a team that deeply values collaboration, velocity, and solving for the customer.
