Strategic Accounting Senior Manager

The Senior Manager of Strategic Accounting Initiatives will play a critical role in operationalizing HubSpot’s most significant business changes and system evolutions. This role focuses on the successful execution of accounting projects, acting as a technical bridge between the Accounting team and stakeholders in Product, Sales, and Financial Operations. You will be responsible for ensuring that the accounting implications of new business models and tools are accurately captured, tested, and integrated into our daily workflows.
A primary focus of this position is the end-to-end management of system implementations and process enhancements. This includes gathering detailed business requirements, developing technical use cases, and leading the hands-on execution of user acceptance testing. You will also be responsible for the practical design of internal controls and testing plans, working closely with audit teams to ensure that new initiatives meet our standards for compliance and operational excellence.
In addition to project execution, you will manage a team of junior staff and consultants to ensure project deliverables are met with precision. You will serve as an essential resource for knowledge transfer, training the broader Accounting team on new systems and driving the adoption of process improvements like automation and AI.
In this role you’ll get to:
With other members of the Strategic Accounting Initiatives team, act as accounting subject matter experts working with our Product and Sales stakeholders to manage execution of key business changes and system implementations that impact accounting
Help provide detailed accounting business requirements after thoroughly understanding the current end to end process and goals for the system
Assist with the design and documentation of implementation testing plans and go-forward control activity design; coordinate buy in from internal and external audit teams
Assist with the identification and generation of use cases for design and configuration of the system as well as testing the output of the use cases
Perform user acceptance and parallel testing to ensure systems meet required specifications
Manage junior team members and third party consultants to ensure clarity around project goals and quality of deliverables
Transfer knowledge and help train Accounting team members that will own the system in their processes going forward
Partnering with the Financial Operations team to understand the accounting impact of key business initiatives and priorities throughout the year
Drive the Accounting team execution of changes in business strategies (such as use of new tools and AI)
Help drive Accounting system and processes maturity and scale including facilitating discussions on pain points and assist with execution of process improvements through automation, new tools, or streamlined manual efforts
Assist with integration of acquired companies or newly stood up subsidiaries into existing Accounting processes
We are looking for people who have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
9+ years in Accounting roles (combination of Big 4 and industry experience)
Significant experience driving process improvements, automations, and/or system implementations
Solid understanding of GAAP including revenue and commissions accounting under ASC 606
Experience leading a team and helping team members grow their careers
Proficiency in Excel is required, Netsuite and Looker a plus
Ability to leverage Artificial Intelligence tools (i.e. ChatGPT) to enhance productivity of yourself and the organization
Desire to constantly be learning and improve skills and knowledge
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Strong oral and written skills and the ability to communicate

The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are tailored to your skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
