Staff Design Technologist, UX + AI Tools & Transformation
About the Role
We're looking for a strategic and hands-on Staff Design Technologist to transform how HubSpot's UX team works through the development of AI-augmented tools and workflows. You'll build AI tools that unlock the potential of our team of 250+ designers and researchers, driving improvements in quality, speed, and customer impact. This role sits at the intersection of advanced technical craft and organizational transformation—you'll ship tools that teams depend on daily while pioneering the future of AI-enhanced design practice.
Your Impact
Champion AI-unlocked creativity: Build seamless AI-powered tools by obsessing over real workflow friction, and creating solutions that augment human creativity and effectiveness.
Drive AI transformation: Define the technical strategy for empowering our UX disciplines and workflows with AI.
Ship AI tools: Prototype, test, and deploy full-stack applications and plugins that solve real problems for working designers.
Model technical craft: Set a high standard for internal tool quality, user adoption, and workflow transformation. Seek feedback, embrace experimentation, and iterate to deliver exceptional web applications and AI integrations for complex, workflow-heavy experiences.
Build for workflow integration: Thrive in our collaborative, cross-functional environment with high ownership, partnering closely with Design, Research, Ops, and Engineering to maximize transformation impact.
Elevate AI fluency: Model technical curiosity, AI integration thinking, and systems perspective throughout the UX organization. Help teams become more effective collaborators with AI tools.
About You
Strong full-stack development experience with modern web technologies and production AI API integrations
Portfolio demonstrates mastery in building tools, preferably internal productivity applications or developer/designer-focused products
Direct experience building AI-powered applications
Curious and on the forefront of exploring emerging AI capabilities, and eager to prototype, evaluate, and creatively apply them to solve real workflow problems
Fluency in design workflows and an ability to translate workflow needs into technical solutions
Proactively collaborative, and comfortable working directly with designers, researchers, and cross-functional partners to identify and solve high-value problems
Clear, compelling technical communication—comfortable influencing technical decisions and explaining complex integrations to non-technical stakeholders
Courage to experiment with cutting-edge AI technologies while maintaining production-quality standards for tools teams depend on
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive design, UX engineering, design technologist, and/or full-stack development experience. Candidates may have a mixture of these roles in their past experience.
Demonstrated understanding of AI concepts, applications, and integration patterns, with working knowledge of major AI APIs and enterprise AI tooling ecosystems
Demonstrated fluency with AI development tools, including experience integrating large language models (LLMs), generative AI services, and AI-powered workflow automation into production applications
Demonstrated technical communication skills, with proven collaboration across design, engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders at all organizational levels
Experience with technical transformation and tool adoption initiatives, including driving organizational change through internal tooling and workflow improvements
Experience driving and influencing continuous technical improvement, both in personal craft development and team capability building
Experience architecting AI-augmented workflows, and can identify creative, scalable technical solutions that enhance rather than replace human creativity
Come build the tools that will define how design teams work with AI—and shape the future of creative productivity at scale!
We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. Research shows that people from underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet every listed qualification, but we value diverse experiences and perspectives and firmly believe these strengthen our work. Whether you're transitioning from a different discipline, career paths, or are still developing some of the listed skills, we're interested in your unique combination of talents and viewpoints.
Strong candidates come from many paths. If you're excited about building AI-powered tools that transform how design teams work, we want to hear from you—even if your background doesn't match every detail above.
