Software Engineer 5 - TV Release Quality

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer passionate about quality to join our TV Release Quality team. This team is dedicated to assessing and communicating the quality of our TV streaming application, both pre- and post-production. We focus on innovating and enhancing our TVUI release process, test automation framework, metrics, observability, and alerting. Additionally, the team manages the TVUI member on-call and release process, ensuring updates for millions of TV devices worldwide.

You will play a key role in building and maintaining tools that empower our TV Release Quality team and the broader TVUI engineering community. Your ability to balance immediate developer support needs with long-term innovation will be critical to our success.
Collaborate and Build Relationships: Work alongside talented TVUI colleagues to identify, quantify, and solve complex quality challenges for the TVUI streaming application, which serves hundreds of millions of members worldwide. You’ll collaborate across multiple teams, building alignment and fostering strong relationships with engineers and leaders. A positive, team-focused attitude and the ability to give and receive candid feedback are essential in our culture of continuous improvement.
Technical Excellence: You have proven experience updating and maintaining test frameworks, proactively identifying and resolving issues in CI pipelines, and driving significant improvements in test automation and release tooling. You are adept at quantifying problems, communicating their impact, and developing robust solutions that improve developer productivity and product quality.
Impactful Tooling & Support: Develop and enhance tools that streamline testing, building, and releasing TVUI code. You’ll improve observability, alerting, dashboarding, and other signals to strengthen our on-call (at least once per month during business hours rotations) and release processes, and ensure we effectively communicate our product’s quality story. Your work will directly impact the productivity of TVUI engineers and the reliability of our releases.
Continuous Learning: The Netflix ecosystem is constantly evolving. You are eager to learn new systems and tools, adapt quickly, and share your knowledge with the team.
What We’re Looking For
Experience with test framework development (Jest, Puppeteer, JavaScript/TypeScript)
Experience in maintaining CI/CD environments (Jenkins, TeamCity, CircleCI, GitHub Actions)
Experience designing, architecting, and scaling complex software systems, in addition to maintaining and improving existing frameworks/systems
Strong problem-solving skills: identifying, quantifying, and resolving technical issues, with proven expertise in debugging and troubleshooting complex, production-level issues in a distributed environment. system
Proven ability to support and enable developer teams through tooling and process improvements
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a positive, feedback-driven mindset
Comfort working in a culture that values autonomy, candid feedback, and continuous learning

TV Release Quality is a US-based team with general working hours of 9am–5pm Pacific Time. This is a remote-friendly role open to candidates located anywhere in the US, as long as you have some overlapping working hours with our West Coast team members.
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100K - $720K. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
