Senior Underwriter - Small Commercial Partnerships

**This is a remote position with occasional travel for in-person partner visits. Ideal candidate will live and work remotely in the Mountain or Pacific time zone. This is a ranged posting. Level offered will be based on candidate experience at manager discretion.**

As a Small Commercial Partnerships Underwriting Specialist in property casualty insurance, you’ll develop, grow and maintain sizable, complex, diversified books of business while working closely with National Partner agents to drive digital and direct flow, assessing risks, determine premiums, set conditions and negotiate impactful deals that maximize profitability and meet business goals.

  • Strategic Account Manager: As part of your portfolio strategy, you’ll ensure a profitable book of Property and Casualty insurance by writing high volume new accounts in the Small Commercial organization, and growing successful agent and broker relationships and pursuing renewals

  • Problem solver: You’ll crunch the numbers and review the data to identify opportunities for improved growth, profit and diversification, impacting the broader portfolio in support of highly concentrated flow in conjunction with Carrier, Platform and Lead Gen Partners.

  • Clear communicator: You’ll maintain and nurture successful relationships with agents and internal stakeholders, while presenting proposals, negotiating deals and obtaining approvals.

  • Collaborative teammate: Contributing to overall team success, you’ll mentor underwriters in both a technical and professional capacity sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Additionally, critical to this role is to work in a team environment, underpinned by trust, supporting any and all work critical to the Small Commercial Partnership team.

  • Conscientious professional: Understanding that the deal isn’t done until the paperwork is complete, you’ll document account reviews, state-compliant sign-offs and referrals, letters of authority and follow underwriting guidelines

Qualifications

What you’ve got:

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with multi-line insurance products

Skills

  • Analytical, problem-solving capabilities

  • Strong territory management skills

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused attitude

  • An aptitude for building rewarding relationships with agents and brokers, peer underwriters and underwriting assistants

Knowledge

  • Command of insurance finance and actuarial concepts

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products, underwriting, risk selection, pricing and marketplaces, as well as regulatory issues in relevant territories

  • Understanding of contract language, including regulatory and policy differences among applicable states

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement processes and tools

  • Expertise in one area of underwriting and ability to provide updates to other underwriters 

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Chartered Property Casual Underwriter or other professional insurance designation preferred
