Senior Product Manager - Payments
The role
We’re hiring a senior, hands-on Product Manager to join WooCommerce Payments and take ownership of a defined area within our payments products and partner integrations.
You’ll collaborate closely with the Head of Product, and work day-to-day with engineering, design, support, and partnerships. This role is deeply executional. You’ll spend much of your time in the work: in Linear writing and refining issues, triaging bugs and incidents, reviewing and shaping flows in Figma, creating lightweight prototypes, and writing briefs or PRDs when they’re needed.
Payments at WooCommerce run at a serious scale—billions in total payment volume—and the quality of this experience directly affects merchant revenue, shopper conversion, and the success of Woo’s commercial engine. This role sits right where reliability, trust, and execution matter most.
What you’ll work on
Own product direction and execution for a key part of the payments product area, with clear goals, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
Improve merchant and shopper experiences across onboarding, checkout, refunds and disputes, payouts, reporting, and overall reliability.
Raise the quality bar by reducing failures and friction, lowering support volume, and improving product ratings and merchant trust.
Use data, support signals, and merchant feedback to decide what to work on next, define success measures, and make tradeoffs explicit.
Work closely with priority payments partners (including Stripe and PayPal) to improve integrations, ship changes, manage dependencies, and resolve issues.
Keep stakeholders aligned through clear, direct writing and communication about progress, risks, and decisions.
What we’re looking for
7+ years in product roles, with senior IC experience owning complex problem spaces and influencing cross-functional teams through clarity of communication and precision of execution.
4+ years in payments or fintech, ideally on products operating at scale; experience with large or global launches is a plus.
Strong product judgment. You can make good calls in messy situations and don’t need perfect information to move forward.
Comfort working on critical, high-trust systems where reliability matters and small changes can have outsized impact.
Ability to work deeply with engineers and designers on complex problems, including technical constraints and tradeoffs.
Strong analytical habits and a practical approach to metrics, dashboards, and instrumentation.
Clear written and verbal communication in a distributed, async environment.
Familiarity with WooCommerce, WordPress, or open-source ecosystems is a plus.
Salary range: $170,000-$240,000 USD. Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
We are searching for high-caliber candidates with the skills and qualities to have a net positive for Automattic. Pay will reflect the potential contribution and the impact you can bring, which may, in some cases, go beyond the range stated.
We’re pleased to offer a straightforward, competitive base salary, providing financial clarity without complex variable components. This isn’t your typical work-from-home job: we are a fully-remote company with an open vacation policy. To see a full list of benefits by country, consult our Benefits Page.
