Senior Data Engineer
📍We are hiring across Canada
Estimated annual compensation: $100,000–$135 000 USD. The reference range provided is specific to San Francisco. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, and geographic location.
We’re hiring a highly autonomous Senior Data Engineer to navigate the entire stack of internal tools used across the company. This includes systems like Metabase, Zoom, Slack, Snowflake, dbt, Google Workspace, and custom automations to surface inconsistencies, trace errors, and ensure data presented to leadership holds up under scrutiny. While you may occasionally maintain or tweak pipelines, your main responsibility is investigative: understanding where the data comes from, how it’s defined, and whether it’s reliable enough to use.
This is a remote role in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
What You'll Do
Access and investigate data across systems like Metabase, Snowflake, dbt, and internal dashboards
Trace the logic behind key metrics and identify inconsistencies, gaps, or incorrect assumptions
Validate whether business-critical reporting is accurate and explain the root cause of any discrepancies
Flag silent data quality issues before they impact downstream decisions
When necessary, maintain or adjust pipelines or queries to support traceability or validation
Report findings and support strategic priorities with clean, verified data
Work autonomously without reliance on other teams for direction or support
What You Bring
Strong SQL and data modeling skills you can trace a metric to its raw source
Familiarity with dbt, Snowflake, Metabase, and modern data stacks
Ability to read and understand pipeline logic (Python, YAML, etc.)
High integrity, independence, and a strong sense of ownership
A skeptical mindset you don’t take dashboards at face value
Confidence navigating complex internal systems with minimal context
Experience supporting senior leadership with investigative or audit-style data work is a plus
