About the team

The Video Team is a group of cinematographers, editors, motion designers, and creative leads at HubSpot that reports into the larger Creative Team within Marketing. Our mission is to inspire, entertain, and empower our global audience by creating original, engaging video experiences that drive measurable business results. Responsible for the production of videos that advance the HubSpot brand and drive customer acquisition, the team's work is watched by millions globally across all major digital platforms.

Our videos span the entire marketing funnel - from brand awareness campaigns to performance-driven ads, product demonstrations, educational content, and social media storytelling. Located within Marketing, this creative team partners closely with designers, marketers, and producers to develop videos that ladder up into multiple key strategies and plays.

About this role

HubSpot is looking for a Principal Video Creative Lead to drive our video creative excellence, set the creative vision for flagship video work, and personally craft top-tier edits. This is a hands-on creative role: you’ll develop and pitch big ideas, direct teams and partners, and jump into the timeline to shape story, pace, sound, and polish. You’ll raise the bar on concept and craft across formats—brand campaigns, product explainers, social series, customer stories, launches—and build systems that help us ship unforgettable work, consistently.

The right person for this role is a maker at heart - someone who can present a bold, creative vision to executives in the morning and spend the afternoon perfecting an edit. You're equally comfortable providing creative direction to the team and diving deep into color correction and sound design. Your expertise spans from creative strategy to technical execution, and you take pride in personally crafting every aspect of the videos you create.

In this role, you'll get to:

  • Lead creative direction for priority video initiatives—from brief and insight to concept, scripts, boards, and finished video.

  • Personally edit key video projects, bringing your expertise in pacing, storytelling, color grading, and sound design to create exceptional final products.

  • Provide detailed, actionable creative feedback to elevate ideas, narrative clarity, and brand consistency across the Video Team.

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into compelling video narratives.

  • Direct on-set production when needed, including working with talent, overseeing cinematography, and ensuring footage meets creative vision.

  • Develop and maintain creative frameworks, style guides, and best practices that enable the team to consistently produce outstanding work at scale.

  • Build and refine our post-production workflows, championing new techniques and technologies that enhance our creative capabilities.

  • Mentor and develop video team members in creative storytelling, advanced editing techniques, and professional craftsmanship.

  • Innovate with AI and emerging technologies to enhance production efficiency while maintaining creative excellence.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends in video production, editing techniques, and creative storytelling

We're looking for people who:

  • Have 8+ years of hands-on video production experience with at least 5 years in creative direction and advanced editing

  • Possess proven experience providing creative direction and leading creative review sessions that elevate work and build team confidence.

  • Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro with the ability to execute complex edits independently.

  • Have deep expertise in color grading, sound design, and advanced post-production techniques.

  • Show mastery of storytelling through editing—understanding pacing, rhythm, emotional arc, and narrative structure.

  • Have experience mentoring creative teams, fostering both technical excellence and creative innovation.

  • Can articulate creative decisions to stakeholders at all levels, from individual contributors to senior executives.

  • Possess a strong portfolio demonstrating both creative vision and technical execution across various video formats.

  • Have on-set literacy (directing talent, collaborating with DP/gaffer) to support the creative vision.

  • Have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

  • Understand how to balance creative ambition with practical constraints like timelines and budgets.

  • Are proficient with color grading tools (DaVinci Resolve a plus) and motion design workflows.

  • Have experience implementing AI tools throughout the creative process for enhanced efficiency.

  • Have experience with video advertising and performance marketing

  • Have experience with cinematography and light motion design
