Job Description

Sponsorship: GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED GM IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

Work Arrangement: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of [Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View], you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

The Role

GM’s Infrastructure Engineering organization seeks a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the strategy, planning, reporting, and execution of cloud adoption programs across multiple teams.

In this role, you will work closely with developer teams to understand their technical requirements, then coordinate with infrastructure teams to map those requirements to cloud architectures deployed reliably and at scale. This role is essential in managing complex service migrations, assessing how decisions affect capacity, and balancing trade-offs between competing priorities. You will also collaborate with Cloud FinOps, Capacity and Performance Engineering, and a variety of platform teams to build opinionated cloud architectures, vehicle services, and developer platforms.

We are seeking a TPM who demonstrates strength in three key areas:

  • Technical Expertise: Possesses broad software engineering knowledge and deep experience in cloud infrastructure (Azure, GCP, and/or AWS).

  • Program Management: Has hands-on experience directing cross-functional, highly technical programs while tracking and reporting on progress and risks.

  • Communication: Can clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, building trust and ensuring understanding among stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Drive the execution of cloud adoption programs, overseeing the migration of products and services from on-premises environments to Azure, GCP, and AWS platforms.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for highly visible, cross-functional workstreams by managing and communicating the status of teams, initiatives, and objectives to all stakeholders, including senior management and executives

  • Develop and review comprehensive program plans, balancing them against agile needs and risk management strategies

  • Gain a thorough understanding of GM technical systems to manage and address dependencies between teams and systems

  • Collaborate with product, program, and engineering management to track progress towards goals, ensure schedules are met, and celebrate wins

  • Use technical judgment to effectively track dependencies and risks while working with large cross-functional engineering teams

  • Leverage an understanding of software development and cloud architectures to collaborate closely with engineering teams, supporting the transition of prototypes and legacy systems into robust, cloud deliverables.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering organizations

  • Several years of TPM experience, with a track record of successfully delivering cloud architectures

  • A record of successfully leading critical engineering initiatives that involve multiple teams with competing priorities and timelines

  • Proven experience influencing cross-functional engineering teams, even without direct authority

  • Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment

  • Proven experience leading complex programs with strong project and stakeholder management skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to convey technical concepts clearly

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork

  • Passion for creative problem-solving and driving results through collaboration and innovation

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Extensive hands-on experience in software engineering or comparable technical roles

  • Proven experience in optimizing cloud infrastructure, including achieving efficiency targets and managing cloud application lifecycle

  • Demonstrated ability and interest for working through ambiguous situations
