Summary:

The Master Data Engineer at D.A. Davidson will work across multiple business areas to identify and model master data elements as well as contribute to the development of strategies, solutions and processes for managing enterprise-wide data elements throughout the data lifecycle. Our Master Data initiative is focused on maximizing business outcomes by improving data quality, consistency, visibility, and accuracy. This role will collaborate closely with business Subject Matter Experts, Information Product Owners and IT team members to design and implement solutions enabling the creation, capture, storage and publication of centralized master data. As a member of the Data Operations team, the Master Data Architect will work alongside Data Engineers, Analytic Engineers, Database Administrators and Business Analysts, and will assist in the execution of a change management process and a governance model to ensure the master data repository structures & meta data definitions are accurate, consistently applied, and remain current over time. Master Data Engineer will also assist in evaluation of technologies in support of a larger enterprise data architecture program.

Qualifications 

• Prior experience within the Wealth Management industry is helpful, such as working with assets under management/administration, client households, custodian records, advisory programs, and master account records

• 3-5 years of experience in a related role (Data Warehousing, Data Governance, Content Management, Data Modeling, Data Architecture)

• Experience modeling and implementing master data management processes with quantifiable improvements

• Current working knowledge of master data management industry best practices (e.g. DAMA/EDM)

• Knowledge and experience in implementing and working with master data technologies

• Understanding of logical data modeling and data normalization

• Understanding of meta-model and metadata management requirements

• Ability to contribute across roles and technologies when necessary

• Experience with PowerBI, SQL Report Services, Tableau, or other data reporting tools is helpful 

• Ability to work in a team environment that promotes collaboration, best practices, and follows Agile development methodologies

• Experience interpreting, modifying, and creating detailed business requirements and definitions as they relate to master data management and data stewardship

Job Responsibilities

• Work with business areas and IT professionals to define and standardize key data concepts (Clients, Householding, Products, Organization, etc.) to insure consistency and accuracy across the enterprise. Examples include: 

o An Employee data model to organize employee data (employee master, employee locations, branch codes, office codes) into an organizational structure that enables data-driven security and permission management

o A Customer data model that incorporates concepts like client, account, household, proxy, etc. including customer hierarchies that can support aggregate reporting, consolidated mailings, account security and prestige programs

o A Product data model that consolidates product offerings into a standard product taxonomy that allows each LOB to report and manage products while providing the ability to aggregate and summarize across the entire portfolio

• Research and catalog business information requirements to standardize the use of third-party reports and data feeds

• Identify data variances and inconsistencies across the firm and develop common data models to reduce discrepancies and coordinate standardized uses of master data

• Evaluate opportunities to centralize the storage and maintenance of enterprise master data and coordinate the implementation a governed system of record

• Assist in the identification and standardization of data use across business units - FICM, ECM, TRUST, DIA, WM

• Reduce / Eliminate data storage and retention by identifying redundant and duplicate data elements throughout the environment, and modeling conformed master data structures

• Maintain set of metadata controls to ensure that data is consumable, systems of record are fit for purpose, and prioritization is given to mission-critical data

• Provide guidance to enhance Master Data Management processes as needed

• Proactively share Master Data best practices and expectations across various business groups, IT and senior leadership

• Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise

• Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
