Contract Type: Contract (remote) - 4 days/week (0.8 FTE)
Location: Remote; US Central time or within GMT +2 Hrs with occasional travel for international events (pre-approved).
Salary: Compensation will vary based on the location of work
Reports to: Executive Director
Travel requirements: Comfortable to travel internationally
Hours: 4 days/week ≈ 32 hours/week
Contract length: 12 months
Payment terms: Monthly invoicing; 30 days net. Pre-approved travel & supplier expenses reimbursed on receipt.
Role summary
The Marketing, Communications & Engagement Manager is responsible for growing IGS’s visibility, member value and commercial impact through integrated digital, CRM and event programmes.
You will design and deliver measurable campaigns for our Handbook, courses and Sustainability Calculator, manage LinkedIn and website content to drive traffic and enquiries, and coordinate member communications that increase retention and advocacy.
You will also act as the operational lead for corporate members and sister society partnerships, and provide practical event support to capture leads and convert interest into membership or sales. Ultimately, you will safeguard and amplify the IGS brand while translating technical benefits into clear, persuasive messages for both members and wider industry audiences.
Key responsibilities
Co-operative marketing & member relationships

Maintain and grow operational relationships with the PR and marketing teams of IGS sister societies and support aligned messaging and cross-promotion of events.

Act as primary operational comms and marketing contact for Premium Corporate Members (PCMs) and Corporate Members (CMs): maintain PR/marketing contacts, produce PCM spotlights and CM profiles, and ensure PCM/CM listings are current and effective. Escalate strategic partnership opportunities to the Executive Director.
Digital channels & content

Implement and optimise our LinkedIn content strategy and run a schedule of content themes (Did You Know, case studies, member stories, benefits).

Manage PR/marketing content on the website and maintain the editorial calendar.

Operate CRM for external audiences (segmentation, campaign set up, tracking) and partner with the Executive Director and Secretariat Manager to improve CRM processes.

Produce monthly dashboards measuring socials & web performance and recommend optimisation actions.

Identify and coordinate non-IGS placement opportunities and outreach.
Events & presence

Plan, attend and execute IGS presence at three or more non-IGS in-person events per year (booth staffing coordination, speaker support, collateral).

Coordinate booth logistics and vendor relationships; brief external suppliers and outsource large-scale logistics where required.

Liaise with PR leads for IGS 4-yearly and regional conferences to add value via IGS channels.

Capture leads/metrics at events for timely follow-up.
Product & campaign marketing

Plan and execute campaigns for the Geosynthetics Handbook, professional development courses, and the Geosynthetics Sustainability Calculator.

Run membership recruitment campaigns promoting benefits to non-members and support conversion tracking and reporting.

Write and distribute press releases in line with product launches.
Brand stewardship & design

Ensure consistent application of the IGS brand across all outputs.

Produce or coordinate new brand collateral and brief/manage external designers for complex work; perform occasional document/layout design.
Member communications

Deliver or coordinate the delivery of member communications on a weekly basis, including blogs, newsletters, announcements, targeted campaigns.

Skills & experience

3–5+ years professional or volunteer experience in digital marketing/communications with evidence of cross-functional delivery.

Fluent English (written and spoken).
-
Interest or experience in scientific, engineering, sustainability or technical sectors.
-
Strong LinkedIn and content execution experience.
-
CRM experience (ToucanTech, HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar) or ability to learn quickly.
-
Event marketing and/or logistics experience.
-
Excellent stakeholder and relationship management; comfortable liaising with corporate partners and volunteers.
-
Strong writing, copyediting and design/layout skills (InDesign/Canva/PowerPoint).
-
Comfortable building and presenting analytics and monthly dashboards.
-
Proactive, organised, able to work independently in a distributed team.
Nice to have

Previous experience in membership bodies or B2B professional societies.

Experience running product sales campaigns for publications or training.
-
Basic SEO and website CMS experience.

Additional languages are welcome.
