Manager, Software Engineering - Creation Engine
Our Creation Engine teams work on some of the core technologies that power our real-time, browser-based Figma Design and FigJam products. These teams work mostly (but not exclusively) on client-side code that runs in the browser. Under the hood, Figma shares a lot of similarities with a game engine. We develop this C++/WebAssembly engine to ensure that internal and external developers can rapidly build new products and features that are fast and reliable by default. These teams own areas such as our in-memory data model (SceneGraph), renderer, and multiplayer client/server protocols.
Housed within Creation Engine, the Client Testing, Observability, and Performance (CTOP) team’s mission is to make it easy for client developers to prevent, detect, and resolve performance and quality problems. This team supports a broad scope of testing and logging frameworks used widely across Figma. This includes innovative performance testing tools with careful attention to signal-to-noise ratio as well as deep investment in observability systems. These efforts are tied closely to company-level priorities around maintaining and achieving high performance and best-in-class quality across Figma’s suite of products.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you'll do at Figma:
Manage and support a team of experienced engineers to deliver best-in-class testing and observability frameworks for Figma client developers
Partner with product, data science, and engineering leadership to set strategy, priorities and mission for teams and projects
Roll up your sleeves as needed to get involved in the technical details and operational strategy
Engage on broader company programs to up-level the team’s work on performance & quality
Build and support a culture of doing great work together for our engineering team by investing in team culture, mentorship, and meaningful work
Grow your career in a collaborative and creative engineering community
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
4+ years of engineering management experience leading high-output, high-performing teams, with 4+ years as a hands-on engineer
Proven leadership in building, mentoring, and motivating senior engineers while maintaining a high technical bar and recruiting top talent
Deeply passionate about the testing, observability, and tooling space, with proven hands-on or leadership experience driving impact in these areas
Demonstrated success delivering scalable, high-quality work and driving cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
Empathetic leader with strong organizational and execution skills, enabling platform teams that support and accelerate many others
While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Deep technical knowledge in the relevant domains, with existing understanding of best practices for testing and observability
Experience managing other managers and growing teams
Experience advocating for and successfully adopting a performance-mindset culture across an entire company
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
