Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Stripe Accounting Team is responsible for supporting all products at Stripe, consulting on accounting implications, and supporting teams' ability to make informed strategic decisions. We are responsible for the accurate and timely recording of all business-generated transactions on our balance sheet and income statement. We operate in a fast-paced environment and collaborate significantly with cross-functional and international teams.

What you’ll do

We are looking for someone to work cross collaboratively to ensure successful and thoughtful accounting integration. This person would be expected to coordinate integration activities with respect to monthly consolidation, policy alignment as well as longer term strategic integration coordination among existing Stripe teams and processes, in addition to helping with accounting for business combinations including coordination and review of externally prepared valuation reports. This person would also be responsible for the accurate accounting for Stripe’s strategic investments, including assisting with determining the appropriate accounting framework and assessing ongoing mark to market and impairment recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a corporate controllership/oversight function over subsidiaries until they are integrated into the broader Stripe teams/systems.

  • Partner with Tax, Corporate Development, Corporate Legal,  Finance & Strategy, and external service providers for diligence or third party valuations

  • Communicate and influence unintegrated teams to align with Stripe policies, procedures, and norms

  • Be the directly responsible individual ensuring timely and accurate reporting of unintegrated subsidiaries/businesses, and strategic investments

  • Shape the evolution of our financial close and reporting programs by implementing leading practices, efficiency opportunities, and internal controls

  • Scope and lead complex, cross functional projects and process improvements spanning multiple teams to find long term and scalable solutions which effectively integrate into Stripe’s systems and processes

  • Plan and perform monthly and quarterly close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses and analytical reviews, producing internal management reporting and external audit support

  • Research, prepare, and review technical accounting analyses

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant public accounting and/or industry experience

  • B.A. or B.S degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)

  • Fluency in U.S. GAAP and ability to research complex accounting issues

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences

  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with large data sets

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Experience with internal controls (design, implementation and execution)

  • Demonstrated history of taking on various types of challenging projects and producing results

  • Solution-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for establishing best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

Preferred qualifications

  • CPA or similar qualification

  • Experience at a public company

  • Payments or Tech industry experience
