Your Role in Our Journey

Jane is looking for a Backend or Full Stack Intermediate Software Developer to join our Internal Apps team and play an integral role in building and maintaining features and platforms for different departments at Jane. We own and spend most of our efforts woking on our own homegrown Jane Account Management (JAM) application and its surrounding ecosystem. JAM is a separate platform from the main Jane monolith that other teams work on. Our team develops features used by our customers and various internal departments, such as Support, Marketing, Finance, Business Intelligence, Security. Like any team at Jane, we have a customer oriented mindset and we care deeply how our work impacts our customers. This role is perfect for someone looking develop solutions to help serve our customers and enable our internal stakeholders to effortlessly serve our customers more effectively.

As a future Developer at Jane, we expect you to have an understanding of software design patterns and how to apply these towards building and maintaining scalable products. You will be working with a group of people who embrace simplicity and strive to deliver high quality solutions to our customers. Your role responsibilities would include developing solutions and implementing functionality for delivering impactful features. As well as being an engaged team member in all of our development processes.

The impact you could have

  • The main application you would be working on is known as JAM, Jane Account Management. One of our team’s core responsibilities is Subscription Billing, meaning we own the billing and payments pipeline, and have a direct impact on how Jane collects revenue from customers.

  • Opportunity to work and collaborate on large cross team projects that have aligned with Jane’s goals.

  • Opportunity to implement functionality for project of varying complexity that directly contribute towards achieving company strategic goals.

  • Implement service oriented architecture, develop new or decompose existing complex features as stand alone self contained services.

  • Help define or influence the team’s product and technical roadmaps ensuring we are building features that provide delight to our customers.

The experience we feel we need

  • Our development team at Jane primarily works with Ruby on Rails, but we welcome applicants with experience in Java, C#, Python, and Go. You will have the resources to ramp up on our tech stack if you haven't worked with it previously, so please don't hesitate to apply!

  • Back End or Full Stack development experience, from database to the presentation layer. PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, ReactJS.

  • We do not require frontend knowledge but being curious and willing to develop and modify frontend features is a plus.

  • Experience working within an agile product team, collaborating with Dev Manager, Product Manager and Design.

  • Experience building scalable and performant features or systems.

  • Passionate about writing performant code and optimizing database queries.

  • Someone with a growth mindset, adaptable to learning new technologies, promoting a culture knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Can help identify technical debt or challenges, and collaborate on brainstorming scalable, maintainable solutions.

  • Advocate for best practices, continuously looking for ways to improve code quality, test coverage, and development workflows.

Compensation Expectations for the Role

Jane’s committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $95,100 and maximum annual salary of $142,600. As you may have noticed, this salary range is quite large, and this is intentional to account for the growth someone will experience in the role throughout their time at Jane (i.e., from building the skills, to accomplished, to highly proficient, all the way to achieving excellence in the role). When hiring talented folks to join the Jane team, we’ve found that new team members are best set up for success when hired with the expectation of being fully accomplished in the role, which for this role would reflect a starting salary of $112,900.

 

It's also possible to join Jane at a salary above or below this, which would mean a salary below $112,900 typically reflects someone who has all the potential to be fully accomplished in the role but doesn't yet possess all the skills required, while a salary above $112,900 is typically for individuals who are currently in this role at Jane and had the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our customers, product and company with deep Jane knowledge.
