Description

We are hiring for two Directors of Personal Auto Product Underwriting Effectiveness, Correct Classification. Each will lead a team of four to five highly skilled, highly graded independent contributors

responsible for ensuring policy risks are classified correctly so we write the

right rate for risk.  Scope of work includes quote and bind controls, post bind verification, and in force policy reviews. This leader with their team will own the end-to-end Correct Classification

programs for aligned subject matters including quote flow process design, innovation and continuous improvement, and verification strategy and execution with a strong focus on leveraging third-party data, automation and analytics to reduce misclassification, improve price accuracy, and drive operational

efficiency. The Director will partner cross-functionally with Product Solutions, Vendor Management, Data Science, Technology, Operations and Compliance to embed classification controls into the quoting lifecycle and to scale robust, auditable verification practices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of five independent contributors; set goals and performance metrics, conduct reviews, and enable cross-functional execution.

  • Define and own the Correct Classification strategy and roadmap for personal auto underwriting, aligned to enterprise goals for risk selection, pricing accuracy and customer experience.

  • Design and optimize quote flow and decisioning processes to reduce classification error and friction, balancing conversion, speed-to-quote and underwriting accuracy.

  • Develop and execute a verification strategy that combines automated checks, select manual review and sampling strategies to validate critical classification attributes (driver, vehicle, garaging, use, coverages).

  • Identify, evaluate and integrate third-party data sources (e.g., MVR, claims histories, VIN/vehicle data, address/housing datasets, telematics/usage data, credit/alternative scoring where permitted) to improve attribute accuracy and reduce reliance on customer-reported data.

  • Partner with Product teams to translate verification outcomes and third-party data signals into pricing and underwriting rule updates; ensure feedback loops that refine risk selection.

  • Participate in vendor selection and management for third-party data providers and verification platforms; own SLAs, data quality monitoring and contract performance.

  • Ensure processes and verification practices comply with regulatory requirements, privacy laws and internal audit standards; prepare for and support audits and examinations.

  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation ? to increase automation and reduce manual touches.

  • Work within our IT ecosystem to set and execute on our AO Product and UWE priorities

Ideal Candidate:

  • Be a strong manager of project and product managers

  • Be analytically knowledgeable in our data query systems and product metrics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field. 6 years, typically 8 years or more relevant work experience, typically 8 years. Master's degree beneficial.

  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (e.g., SAS, Access).

  • Must have good planning, organization, analytical, decision-making and communication skills.

  • Experience directly managing others preferred.

  • Excellent analytic, quantitative and problem-solving skills with proven ability to make and execute data driven decisions.

  • Advanced knowledge of product offerings, business processes, product line systems, underwriting rules, pricing plans and databases.

  • Strong understanding of insurance concepts and financial metrics.
